What names go hand in hand with Dakota? Say hypothetically twins

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

People’s comedy game is strong tonight! 99% of the names on here are fucking awful.

Mrstwiddle · 24/07/2022 00:51

I’d rethink Dakota if you’re able to.

HeddaGarbled · 24/07/2022 00:49

Dakota & Chase sounds like a TV detective duo.

Our 2 year old daughter is Dakota and we have just named her baby sister Kendall

Dakota and Kendall💖

As in Danny or Roy?

It's also the name of an iconic super-luxury prewar building in Manhattan, where John Lennon was shot and killed. And the song about it, The Dakota by Christine Lavin: "every time I see the Dakota I think about that night ..."

I guess you could go with Apthorp, Beresford, Eldorado, San Remo (maybe not).

GreenClock · 24/07/2022 00:32

Sophia, Leonora, Cassia, Alana.

I love Dakota!

Are we going for a girls name or boys?

Sienna would work well

For a boy, maybe Wyatt

Those are perfect names to go with Dakota.

I'd also suggest Dakota and Winona
Dakota and Tallulah
Dakota and Avery

Dakota and River
Dakota and Sage
Dakota and Jethro

Half of those places you mention are named after people...

'Dakota' isn't daft... but it, and many other US state names are the names of Native American peoples ... it's disrespectful to use them if those people find it offensive.

but, Dakota, for a child rather than a state ? Really ?

It’s been an extremely popular name for many years in various countries. Would you be taking the piss out of the names Georgia, Charlotte, Chelsea, Madison, savannah, Alexandria etc etc because they are major American locations? Do you take the piss out of the name Florence because it’s an Italian location? Or Victoria because it’s Australian? Most names have a ‘daft’ origin when you think about it. My name means/implies Christmas Day in most of the major languages across the globe and I was born in June. I guess that’s stupid too?

Most states would work - I knew sisters named Indiana (Indi) and Alabama (Bama)

Not Massachusetts or Mississippi. Not Rhode Island or New York, Mexico, Hampshire or Jersey either.

My first thought was Sienna.

Dakota and sienna were my top two girls names! Dp vetoed them both :/ annoyingly I’d mentioned to a friend of mine the names I liked and she had her girls right after I had mine. Guess what she called them 🙄

ErrolTheDragon · 23/07/2022 23:24

The US state ones like Tenessee would be pretty silly on a British kid, hopefully that goes without saying. (Tenessee Williams was actually called Thomas and was born in Mississippi ... now that'd be a terrible name. Especially if the owner of it became a Mrs.)

Kite22 · 23/07/2022 23:23

Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wyoming, Montana. Anything less than a state would be short-changing Dakota's sibling.
