Opinions on Monty?

Really stuck on a boys name and although Theo/Theodore is on our list, I'm not sure if it's too popular at the moment!
Is Monty too out there for a boy name?

Theo and Theodore combined (5403) is far more popular than the top name Noah (4525). I don't like any of those 3.

Love Monty, it's a lovely name. We had it on our name list but my DH wasn't as keen. Also really like Algernon that a pp menitoned. I know one boy called Monty who he is 15. He is a lovely boy and really suits his name.

It does make me think of Uncle Monty from A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket but he was a lovely character so not a bad connotation. It's quite cute for a baby, I just can't see it on a teenager for example.

Going to sound ridiculous but I named my goldfish monty, he lived for nearly 5 years I named him after mr burns on the simpsons! I still love the name

Monty is my dog’s name! DH’s best friend and his wife have a son called Monty (dog was mine before I met DH) and they don’t like me because of it lol, even though I didn’t know them when I named the dog 😬

I like monty but agree it's dog like or try too hard. In the same league as digby which I also loved. Mind you I also liked muttley 🤣🤣

I think Geri Halliwell has a kid called Monty, short for Montague IIRC. Awful - part of her new 'trying to be posh' persona. It's very public school, OP. Monty probably has a brother called Bunter or Pongo.

Month is a brilliant name. Go for it.

Theodore is a beautiful name. It is my favourite boys name around, no matter how popular, that wouldn't put me off.

Mongomery is awful IMO but I love Monty. Reminds me of lovely evenings watching Gardeners world with Monty Don.

The Full Monty springs to mind, but I suppose younger people wouldn't think of that. ( Just made myself feel old googling how long ago the film was...1997!)

I have a nephew called Monty. Birth certificate says Montgomery but no one ever calls him that 😁

We had a dog called Monty. But then again, there's a family dog called Theo!

I do know a child called Monty (short for Clement) and it actually works really well.

When I hear Monty I either think dog or a stuck up, upper class child who's siblings are called Bartholomew and Cecelia.
