Strong girls names

Not due until Christmas and still don't know what sex baby is but we're sorted in case of a boy but girl name is proving tough!

We don't like the trend for illy/otty/olly ending names, they're just a bit girly, but maybe as nicknames like Ellie for Ellen, then DD could decide herself.

I use 'strong' but not sure if this is the best adjective?! Anyway, suggestions for less girly girls names please!

Matilda. It means battle maiden :-)

I do think also that having had "old-fashioned" names coming back (Edith, Ivy etc) we may be due for a renaissance of Ann, Linda, Jane, Alison etc

We called our daughter Julia which I (obviously) love, principally because it is a strong but beautiful name. When she's being a handful we refer to her as Julia Caesar Grin

It a truly great name 😏

I had a Grace - always think of several strong Grace characters (real and fictional)
I have a Lydia- she’s like a lioness. Middle names of Julianne and one I won’t add.
I think of these as strong and wonderful names:
Bronwyn
Wilhelmina
Emmeline
Josie (I guess that’s short for Josephine)
Harriet
Bryony
Lorna
Julia
Audrey
Lyra
Justine
Francine
Slyvia

@Brightonbelle87 it is :) Cerys means beloved.

You can also use the variation Carys. We preferred Cerys and DH has a bit of a thing for Cerys matthews lol

MassiveSalad22 · 20/07/2022 18:59

Harriet means ‘ruler’ 🙌🏻
Always loved Robyn too!

Crazyhousewife · 20/07/2022 18:55

We chose some traditional Christmas names Natalia and holly. Also have Jane as middle name in our family as it seemed to be a tradition. Maddison was also a popular one followed by peyton, brooke, Holland, everly, Sophia. It was a hard choice for girls. I would definitely not be stuck on names for another girl.
