Girl’s names dilemma

Lunalolou · 18/07/2022 14:14

We’re expecting a baby girl any day now and can’t decide on a name. I’m getting a bit stressed about it as we really struggled to decide on a name for our DS when he was born. We had a shortlist but none of them felt right when he was born and he ended up nameless for several days before being called something else entirely (Isaac). I don’t want to go through that stress again if possible! What’s everyone’s opinions of the following names (or other possible suggestions):

Phoebe
Hazel
Daisy
Autumn
Mia
Emilia

At the moment we’re leaning towards Phoebe or Hazel. Earlier in the pregnancy I was really set on either Emilia or Mia, but I’ve been put off by how “popular” they appear to be when looking online (although I have never met any in real life!)

Thanks everyone :)

I love Autumn it's so pretty and more unusual than your other choices, goes lovely with Isaac too, not keen on any of your other choices, Hazel at a push

PoleFairy · 19/07/2022 15:50

Phoebe - it's OK.
Hazel - love
Daisy - ok
Autumn - love
Mia - very popular
Emilia - beyond popular I don't even understand how people are STILL naming babies this. There are 80 people in our office, around 55 women. In the last 18 months the baby girls born in the office have been Amelia, Emelia, Amelia and Amelie. I also have 2 friends who have had baby girls in the last year and called them Amelia and Emelia. They're like a plague of vowls

I love Isaac & Hazel together 😊

I had 2 people at my school with that name isaac attacked people all the time and snotted everywhere, and hazel was a bitchy gross girl who was nasty to everyone.

Autumn It's ok 4

Emilia Love 1

Hazel is lovely. A very underused name

MrsDrSpencerReid · 19/07/2022 04:02

I love Isaac & Hazel together 😊

romdowa · 19/07/2022 03:53

Hazel is beautiful. 😍

mathanxiety · 19/07/2022 03:46

I love, love, love Isaac and Hazel.

Second choice Isaac and Phoebe.

But Isaac and Hazel is a gorgeous combination, with the Z sound in both.
Hazel is an underused gem of a name imo.

BogStandard · 19/07/2022 00:40

I know 2 Hazel's, both in their 50s. One is very fun, the other is very stuffy. The name makes me think of the latter.

Brainstorm22 · 19/07/2022 00:29

My daughter is Charlotte which is very flexible as it could be shortened to Charlie, Lottie etc.

Mine is always Charlotte though!

Really like Hazel and don’t see it as old-fashioned at all. I also have an Isaac and think Hazel goes lovely with it. Congratulations!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 18/07/2022 22:09

My 5 year old niece is called Hazel.
it’s lovely, I like Phoebe too.

Mumofgirls2017 · 18/07/2022 22:06

I love Daisy, but also Hazel 🥰

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 18/07/2022 22:03

Don't like Daisy - cute on a toddler but l think can be outgrown.
Not a fan of Aufumn.
Like Phoebe and Hazel.

FlamingoDust · 18/07/2022 21:50

I like Daisy and Autumn although I probably would use Summer at the moment if I was going for a season!

BlackbirdsSinging · 18/07/2022 17:10

Love Daisy and Hazel, very sweet and they will grow well with the child.
Other ideas:
Olive
Perdie
Lottie
Mercy
Joy
Tulah
Enela
Bonita
Lola

Posted too soon....I love Emilia.
Don't stress - she'll be given a name, one way or another. My ds (35 now), didn't have a name for 5 days. We went back n forth so much, it was funny.

Amdone123 · 18/07/2022 17:06

I don't like Hazel, at all.
Phoebe is ok, bit dated.
Of all your names,

Snowleopardess · 18/07/2022 16:54

I am biased as my 2yr old is a Hazel, so think it is the nicest name on your list - we don’t know of any other young Hazel’s (currently) - old fashioned names are pretty popular what with Elsie, Ada etc so don’t think that’s a bad thing tbh

Beamur · 18/07/2022 16:33

Hazel is great. Not over used and I really like the 'z' sound in the middle. There are a million Mia/Phoebe's because they are pretty names.
I like Daisy. Autumn less so and not for a summer baby.
Emilia is rather lovely too.

Thanks everyone! I do really like Hazel but noticed on some other threads people said it was quite old-fashioned or made people think of a middle-aged or old lady. I went to uni with a girl called Hazel and she’s the only one I’ve known so I don’t have that perception but not sure if the majority of people would do?

Same for me, my sister's name is Hazel (she is only 29) so I have never considered it to be an old lady's name - I have never met another except one girl at our school who was even younger than my sister.

My DP has said it's an old lady's name but I can't see it. :) I really like it.

Ignoranceisbliss44 · 18/07/2022 16:29

I love the sound of Phoebe Autumn.

I know three Hazels - aged late 30s, early 30s, and early 20s. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to meet a baby Hazel. In fact I think it's quite a timeless name. It certainly doesn't date in my mind to the 80s like so many other names popular in that era.

I definitely don't think 'old lady' (but seems old lady/men names are all the rage these days anyway!)

BaronessBomburst · 18/07/2022 15:24

Autumn would be a strange choice for a July baby.
Phoebe and Hazel are both lovely.
