Oh I love them all! I would spell Ziad as Ziyad though to avoid any mispronunciation. I would have chosen Ziyad but the meaning of Ziyad is the same as the meaning for our eldest son's name xx

@redbigbananafeet , Zah-eed

Annoyedwithmyself · 19/07/2022 07:01

All very nice but Ziad or Elias are my favourites! Ali is lovely too.

I teach a Zaid and have often thought what a lovely name it is.

Can you spell it phonetically please? X

JasmineVioletRose · 18/07/2022 21:24

Omar

ladygindiva · 18/07/2022 20:12

I really like Yousef

@JellyBellyNelly , it crops up on nearly all the welsh boy's name threads. I have visions of a multi-ethnic class in somewhere like Cardiff or Wrexham with at least half a dozen little boys called Idris or Idriss.

Moroccan friend says 'Nooo, it's a very old man's name', and I say it was hardly ever used, then suddenly it's flavour of the month.

Omar and Ahmed both have different pronunciations in arabic.

😂😂😂.

Im laughing because along with my life in the Middle East, Wales also plays a huge part in it.

@JellyBellyNelly , I like Yusuf too.
Idris/Idriss is quite popular where I live, but it's only recently become popular - it was a granddad name a few years ago

Yes. In my day also. But then that hunk came along 😂

but that said, it is a very nice name and one that was on a list of mine also for a grandchild. ❤️

@JellyBellyNelly Top two choices were Yousef and Ahmed because my Husband loves the meaning of those names.

I think you should listen to your husband, me, and Kirsten from a few posts ago.

Yusef is beautiful.

Ahmed is also nice but there is the pronunciation that horrible joke from years ago that doesn’t need to be repeated here.

Luxa · 18/07/2022 18:57

I like Ahmed and Zaid.

Go with something that won’t need too much emphasis on the correct pronunciation as everyone deserves their name to be said the proper way.

Im an Arabic speaker so would go with Yusuf.

But I may have personal reasons for suggesting Zakariyah

In fact Yusuf was one of two names I suggested for my latest grandchild. But then ……..😉

Ahmed would be pronounced Amed or Achmed
Elias wouldn’t be pronounced properly either.
Ziad would be ok probably but few people would get Zaid right.

Idris is also popular where I am in the Arab world but again people could end up saying it their own way. It does however work well as a Muslim name in a multicultural society.

Hillrunning · 18/07/2022 17:18

Sorry I didn't mean nice nickname. I meant one that kids use to taunt each other!

Mummyxxxx · 18/07/2022 17:17

@JellyBellyNelly Which name do you think that would be?

OP posts:
Mummyxxxx · 18/07/2022 17:15

@Hillrunning The only nickname I know for Elias is Eli!

Mummyxxxx · 18/07/2022 17:15

@Charley50 I'm trying to choose a name that would age well and that people can pronounce.

Omar, Yousef and Lawrence are my most handsome.

Charley50 · 18/07/2022 08:04

I like them all apart from Ahmed. Not super-keen on Ali, but it's ok. The rest I love.

RuthW · 18/07/2022 07:58

ChagSameachDoreen · 18/07/2022 07:27
