Madeleine -
alao is this how you would naturally spell it or would you use Madeline.
just curious if we’d be forever correcting pronunciation and spelling.

mad a line (London)

ApolloandDaphne · 12/07/2022 20:27

I would say something between Mad-a-Lin and Mad-a-Lane but never Mad-a-Line. I am Scottish.

Slushycup · 12/07/2022 20:26

I have a name that ends in 'ine' but I do regularly get called the 'lyn' version. I just correct people.

Your DC name will probably be abbreviated to Maddie or similar anyway.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 12/07/2022 20:24

Madder lin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/07/2022 20:23

Somewhere between Mad'lin and Mad-eh-lin.

The other spelling would be Mad-e-line (In an old house in Paris that was covered in vines etc etc).

PuppyMonkey · 12/07/2022 20:22

I have a 25 year old DD Madeleine pronounced Madda-Lynn - East Mids.

Although she’s always Maddie tbf.

are you saying you’d pronounce the ending line to rhyme with fine? That would be a big no for me tbh.

KittenKong · 12/07/2022 20:22

Mah - deh - len. London - but I woke with one and that’s how she says it.

collieresponder88 · 12/07/2022 20:21

Madalin. Essex

Thighdentitycrisis · 12/07/2022 20:21

child will likely be known as Maddy either way!

Thighdentitycrisis · 12/07/2022 20:20

Madeline: Madda lin
Madeleine: Madduh line
in south east

first version is more usual in U.K.
I think the other is French ?

ChristmasJumpers · 12/07/2022 20:19

I also like the name Madeline OP but would definitely spell it that way. Madeleine is Ma-de-lin here (Lancashire)

HerRoyalHappiness · 12/07/2022 20:19

Madeleine Mad-a-lin
Madaline Mad-a-line

TreePoser · 12/07/2022 20:18

WildOnce · 12/07/2022 20:18

Ma-duh-lyn with the emphasis on the ‘ma’. From the South East of England.

StopStartStop · 12/07/2022 20:17

Wouldn't use it.
North of England. North West.

Anxiernie · 12/07/2022 20:16

Anxiernie · 12/07/2022 20:15

I would say Mad-uh-lin, but my brain really wants to say Mad-uh-lane

whiteroseredrose · 12/07/2022 20:15

Madda Lynn - NW England

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/07/2022 20:15

Mad-eh-lehn

I'm from Ireland.

Honeyroar · 12/07/2022 20:14

Mad-eh-lane. From the NW but most Madeleines I know were from when I lived in France.

SMBC2020 · 12/07/2022 20:14

Either Mad-lin or Mad-e-lin depending on how quickly I say it. From Scotland

Violetandpurple · 12/07/2022 20:13

Mad-uh-line is the pronunciation we like but if she’d forever get mad uh lin I feel like we should avoid it which would be a shame as it’s a very pretty name

KeyErro · 12/07/2022 20:13

Maddalin or Madlen
Lancs/Irish

whatausername · 12/07/2022 20:13

Those different spellings correspond to two different pronunciations so they're effectively different names (same root name of course). -Eine cannot be pronounced like -ine, it comes from French. Which spelling or pronunciation do you want? Pick whichever it is and then use the correct pairing.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 12/07/2022 20:13

Mad-a-lin. London
