Would this association put you off?

I've just been watching The Lost Daughter on Netflix and the main character is called Leda (Lay-da). I think it's a beautiful name, but I've just been reading about it's origins in Greek mythology- do you know the origin of the name and, if so, would the association put you off? Do you like the name? Know any? Thanks!

I would assume it's pronounced Lee-da as well. I do know one and that's the pronounciation she uses.

Most people would say 'Lee-da' though or possibly phonetically like 'lead-er.'

If you want people to day Layda then spell it like this.

Interesting, thanks for the comments. My understanding is that it's usually pronounced Lee-da, which I don't like as much, is that correct? I think Lay-da is the Italian pronunciation?

I know the story, wouldn't put me off.

IsadoraQuagmire · 05/07/2022 14:59

Yes, I know Leda and the swan, and it wouldn't put me off the name.

Twizbe · 05/07/2022 14:58

I have a BA and MA in Classics so I immediately thought about swans ....

Tbf though, her story is a lot better than some of the others

I do know the origin, but it wouldn’t put me off. I would pronounce it Lee-da, though.

Riverlee · 05/07/2022 14:56

The name is totally knew to me and I don’t have any associations for it.

I would assume it’s pronounced Led-a though.
