Wilfred or Robin?

Only two names I can get on board with at the moment - really struggling with boys names and due in a few weeks!

Other suggestions also welcome - I like classic but not necessarily too common (and lots I can’t use). Thanks!

This is an old thread!!!

todaystoday · 25/02/2023 07:18

Oh and Wil as a NN obviously

todaystoday · 25/02/2023 07:18

Wilfred
Wilf, Fred, Freddy - all great nicknames
love that name

Pipsquiggle · 25/02/2023 06:27

Wilfred / Wilf much nicer than Robin /Rob.

I only knew girls called Robin growing up

I also like Gregory /Greg

TheAustralian · 25/02/2023 05:56

Robin sounds a bit of a wet lettuce leaf

love Wilfred and Wilbur ❤️

MissEmily5 · 04/07/2022 20:27

I love Wilfred! My other half isn’t keen but I feel like Wilf is a super cool name! He said if was to chose Wilfred he’d like the nn Freddie. So lots of options :)

SirChenjins · 04/07/2022 20:19

Wilfred/Wilf is a great name - Robin is just so twee. Rob/Robbie are good names though.

rwalker · 04/07/2022 20:15

wilfred/wilf robin too wishy washy dreadful name

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/07/2022 20:09

Well I’d go for Robert nn Robin, as although I like Robin, it’s a unisex name, so if he isn’t keen on that when he’s older then he has options.

Wilfred is nice too

Patrick
Laurence
Walter
Hugh
Francis
Ernest
Arnold
Leonard
Guy
Alistair

JiminyGlick · 04/07/2022 13:18

I know a Wilf. It’s a great name.

Robin is mimsy.

emmathedilemma · 04/07/2022 13:15

Wlifred

Twizbe · 04/07/2022 11:37

I like both but prefer Robin.

For now, have both in mind and see which works best once baby is here.

Somanymistakes · 04/07/2022 11:35

Wilfred!

I know a Wilf. He's ace.

Frida9 · 04/07/2022 11:31

Robin, Robin Hood isn't seen as "wet". Reminds me of Christopher Robin too.
Wilfred sounds like a dog's name to me (or wild anyway), sorry to anyone who already has a Wilfred.

notangelinajolie · 04/07/2022 11:27

Wilfred by a mile. I love that name.

AliBaliBears · 04/07/2022 11:22

We considered Robin, also on our list in case our tastes are similar:

Owen
Reuben
Rory
Matthew
Alexander
Ronan

AliBaliBears · 04/07/2022 11:20

Definitely Robin. Great name, and has Rob/Robbie options too.

Really dislike Wilfred, and hate Wilf. Will a d Freddie are ok though and I guess they are possible nicknames.

pinklavenders · 04/07/2022 11:13

I dislike Wilfred a lot, especially the Wilf part.

Robin is nice or how about Reuben or Quentin?

goldfinchonthelawn · 04/07/2022 09:55

I adore Wilfred. I also love the name Robyn for a girl but for some reason not so keen on Robin for a boy. Maybe because I've met too many dodgy Robs in my time.

SummaLuvin · 04/07/2022 09:54

Robin over Wilfred. But Wilbur more than either.

LT2 · 04/07/2022 09:51

Did anyone ever describe Robin Williams as 'wet'? A personality makes a person, not their name. My son's name has been described as wet on MN too. Seems a very British thing as Americans seem to love their 'soft' sounding boy names

Lemonlemon88 · 04/07/2022 09:07

i have an uncle robin and he is definitely not wet 😂 he is rob mainly though, Robbie as a child.

bloominglovelyorange · 04/07/2022 09:04

Wilfred is much nicer but I do like both

robin is absolutely NOT more unusual @Herewegoagain84

Have a look at the official statistics and graphs on the dark greener website

Robyn (girls name) is number 74 in the charts having risen a lot over past few years

names.darkgreener.com/#robyn

Robin is number 146 in official ONS charts for boys (and Robin is top 400 for girls too) Wilfred is number 145 for boys. When you add up all the Robyn, Robin (girl and boys) there's far far more on number than Wilfred. Also Robin feels much more popular as names like Ronnie, Reuben, Ruby, Roman, Rory, Rose are all booming in the charts, mostly all top 50 or higher , so you have classes full of Ro--- names that all blend into one a bit. Definitely trendy.
Wilfred doesn't really blend in with names in the same way. Id never confuse Wilfred and William for example.

Velvetbee · 04/07/2022 08:18

Robin for me but then I know a truly horrible Wilfred.

Luxa · 04/07/2022 07:44

Wilfred. I also like Wilbur.
