Strong boy names -SBCU

Hi everyone,

We had our baby boy on Thursday morning and while he was a lovely, (unexpectedly!) chunky 8lbs, he’s had to stay in the Special Baby Care Unit due to issues with his oxygen levels and “sleepiness” and has had quite a few tests done. We were already struggling to think of/agree on names but now that he’s here and having a tough time, I feel like he needs a “strong” name. My favourites throughout pregnancy had been Robin and Teddy and while I still love them, I just don’t think they suit him now.

Wondered if anyone has any suggestions? I hate that he’s in SBCU and only known as “Baby Surname”. It feels so impersonal when all the other babies have their names up on the board.

Thanks in advance!

I always felt Jack is a strong boys name.
Congratulations and I hope you are home with your son soon.

Congratulations on your baby boy OP! 🥳
Lachlan or Lauchlan are great
I loved Lachlan for a boy but couldn’t use it due to our surname 😭
Also like
Max
Alexander
Leo
as strong names.

I hope you get him home with you soon!

I have a Robin and he's the strongest toddler I've ever met 😂 I think people grow into their names and make them their own, regardless of what they mean. No such thing as a "strong" name really!

Peter

Ah mine was in SCBU for a while, it’s hard. Take care of yourself, one day at a time.

I love Robin and Teddy. You could have Robert with Robin as a nn, or Edward with Teddy. Personally I would stick with the name you love and not let these days define him.

Saying that there are some great suggestions here and I will add Leo to the mix. Get well soon little lion.

Thanks everyone! These are giving us lots of ideas and a good distraction from all the worrying.

@clpsmum we’re in Scotland 😊

Lauchlan is a good strong name. There's one in my family and he lives up to the name, he is brilliant!!! Congratulations on his arrival and hope you get him home soon. Let us know what you decide on xx

Personally I see Teddy as a strong name.

Is after all for a bear! Plus they are often the rock and support of people who need them.

Edward with option of Ted or Teddy later?

KeeefBurtain · 03/07/2022 12:32

Leonard (Lenny)

It’s my 5 year olds name. It means lion hearted. He’s the strongest, bravest boy and suits his name well.

Robert - it is strong and timeless. Got great nn like Robbie and Rob. It means 'bright fame'. My 2 went without names for about 3 weeks each, also known as 'baby surname' in the hospital and 'baby no name' at home. We took time to choose the right names for them. Take all the time you need to choose the right name for him - congratulations 💐

Yes I like Robert - V underused

Robin is a traditional nn also

congratulations and hope all goes well

Underhisi · 03/07/2022 12:30

I think Edward too. He can be Teddy whilst he is little but has a strong classic name and other nicknames to choose from when he is older.

RuthW · 03/07/2022 11:01

Edward. A good strong name and you can call him Teddy later if you wish
