Do they avoid the nn Wally? What are they called instead?

In general is it easy to avoid the nn Wally?

One of Chris Evan's twins is a Walt.

MrsToadflax · 04/07/2022 15:36

They are British and have Walter on the birth certificate.

Bagging · 04/07/2022 15:10

@MrsToadflax, are they British? Is the full name Walter or do they have Wally on the BC?

The only Walter I know is rapidly approaching 90!

Nyxxie · 03/07/2022 21:08

I know a little boy Walter, known as Walts

RuthW · 03/07/2022 17:42

I know one. He's not a Wally.

MrsToadflax · 03/07/2022 17:28

There is a Wally in my DS's class. Always goes by Wally. I really don't like it!

Abraxan · 03/07/2022 09:19

Incidentally I teach in primary and don't think I've ever heard a child call anyone a 'Wally' for over a decade if not longer. Not sure I've even heard an adult say it for a very long time!

Abraxan · 03/07/2022 09:16

Taught a young boy called Walter up til her was in year 2. He was called Walter throughout with no shortening.
He's about 11/12 now and he went through juniors not having it shortened to anything other than the occasional Walt. Never Wally so far.

ChagSameachDoreen · 03/07/2022 09:12

I don't know any. Possibly because it isn't 1967.

UsernameIsHarderThanBabyName · 03/07/2022 08:41

Love the name Walter….but already used it for my dog. He does get called Wally

1984Winston · 03/07/2022 07:16

I know a 4 year old Walter, he's just Walter no nicknames

veneeroftheyear · 03/07/2022 07:16

I know a 13 year old Walter, known as Walt.

SquigglePigs · 03/07/2022 07:16

My 3 year old has a friend at nursery and he's either just Walter or it's shortened to Walt.

drpet49 · 03/07/2022 07:15

No, but I know 2 dogs called Walter

WinterMusings · 03/07/2022 07:13

Do kids even say 'Wally' anymore? I'm sure they can't do! I'm in my 50's and it was a playful (not nasty) comment then.

the 2 Walters I know are retirement age Walter & Walt.

I can't imagine a child in the U.K. called Walter (or Harold) but 15/20 years ago I thought Edward/George/Albert/Alfred we're not due a come back, so what do I know?!?!

Underhisi · 03/07/2022 07:07

There are a few older generation Walters in my family and they are called Walter or Wal ( Wally without the 'ee' sound)

SpaceJamtart · 02/07/2022 23:20

One who is 2 and gets called Wally but his family instigated that. And one who is 13 who goes by his middle name because he hated being called Walter

FiveHargreeves · 02/07/2022 23:15

Yes, a few. All under seven.

I don't think people say wally any more.

curiou · 02/07/2022 23:05

Two, one is 6 and just Walter, the other is 2 and called Walt.

Womeninthesequel · 02/07/2022 23:02

I know two, 17 and 6, both called Walty at home and Walt everywhere else

Floella22 · 02/07/2022 23:00

I just think of Walt Disney.
And Walter in the Beano. He looks like Jacob Rees Mogg.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/07/2022 22:55

A couple, known as either Walter or Walt

LondonQueen · 02/07/2022 21:04

I know a few in my wider circle, can't imagine they would want to be called WallyHmm

Adventing · 02/07/2022 20:26

Yes 2, both under 7. Don't know them well but I think they're just known as Walter
