I don't like it, same as the other boy names that end in -ie, like Alfie, Reggie, Ronnie.

It's a bit too nicknamey for me too.

I feel the same, not a fan of any of these 'ie' type of boys names really.

ellieboolou · 02/07/2022 22:26

Awful

SerenaVanDerWoodsenHumphrey · 02/07/2022 22:17

Nate Archibald is cool, sexy, strong and not at all wanky.

(OK, maybe a LITTLE BIT wanky!!)

It's my dogs' name Grin

He also goes by Archibald when he's in trouble!

I know 2 dogs with this name too. It's a no for me.

Viviennemary · 02/07/2022 22:04

Don't like it at all. Can't see the appeal tbh.

pinklavenders · 02/07/2022 22:02

if you’re concerned about other people’s thoughts on why you named your child a name you like then there’s something wrong.

But why are you yourself asking for other people's thoughts on the name Archie?

Lalosalamanca · 02/07/2022 19:29

But why do you care if you are set on archie? What does it matter what a load of strangers think of the name? Why ask then? It doesn't make sense.

salharg · 02/07/2022 19:26

@Lalosalamanca no I was not saying I would choose a name due to peoples opinions on here I was simply asking what is the general consensus on the name

Lalosalamanca · 02/07/2022 19:07

@salharg but that last comment of yours is in direct conflict with the thread you started asking for people's opinions on the name archie.

salharg · 02/07/2022 18:26

@PlanetNormal if you’re concerned about other people’s thoughts on why you named your child a name you like then there’s something wrong.

Whether you like it or not, the reality is that Harry & Meghan are very controversial & divisive public figures and I would be concerned about perceptions that I had named my child after theirs. I would also ask if that was fair on the child?

Lalosalamanca · 02/07/2022 17:58

Me, clearly @LadyKenya its properly wanky and very try hard. Doesn't surprise me that you are keen on it either.

Tilda77 · 02/07/2022 13:55

I think it's ok. Just a bit meah. I know 2 Archie's.It seems to have got very popular. Quite a safe choice. There's a good chance that there will be several in the same class/year when it comes to school though

PeekAtYou · 02/07/2022 13:28

Are the boys called Wolfgang from the UK? I imagine it as a German/Austrian name because of Mozart

pinklavenders · 02/07/2022 13:02

For someone with teens like me, it's hard to imagine boys with names like Wolf and Bear as adult men

I know a couple of Wolfgangs known as Wolf

PeekAtYou · 02/07/2022 11:43

I have a 21 year old son and Archie was part of the -ie/y trend for names (Charlie, Ollie, Alfie, Harry...) when he was born so Archie js a normal male name if your child has grown up with names like that l.

For someone with teens like me, it's hard to imagine boys with names like Wolf and Bear as adult men (Bear Grylls isn't really called Bear) but undoubtedly it will be the same for them and in 20 years it will be normal.

I think Archie is fine. Not my favourite boys name but not the monstrosity that some pop have suggested.

pinklavenders · 02/07/2022 11:27

This was my grandfather's name, actually he was called Archibold

Isn't it Archibald?

KirstenBlest · 01/07/2022 22:48

@foxster22 , hope you've got your tin hat on

foxster22 · 01/07/2022 22:41

Honestly it's down market and the ones in England tend to be the naughty boy or one with a bit of a chaotic home life eg like Riley Tyler type names

Arthur is more sophisticated for a man

OneCup · 01/07/2022 21:25

Not keen I am afraid.

salharg · 01/07/2022 20:26

I really like it and also do not get the baby name trend. The only Archie I know is 75 and yes was a baby once but has not been held back due to have a babyish name

It's OK in a scottish accent. Archibald is not good. Archer is fine as a surname, awful as a first name. Arch is truly dreadful

I’m Scottish and, while I am not fond of Archie, it is infinitely worse when pronounced “Erchie”.

That is not true. It was fashionable long before Meghan and Harry used it. In fact, I was rather surprised they used a name that was quite common amongst the general populace.

calmlakes · 01/07/2022 17:20

This was my grandfather's name, actually he was called Archibold but no one ever called him that.
I think it is a perfectly normal but rather popular name.
