I do think both names are pretty, and like I said earlier Esme is so so popular where we are right now. But names become popular for a reason! They tend to be very nice. One of mine has what is a top 10 name (and for years.... ). He does get a bit bored of being [name] S and one of several in every year group. But even so it is a solid name that hopefully will stand the test of time.

Isadora

SummerLobelia · 18/08/2022 20:02

I have to say that esme is so so so popular around my way (south west). It is like the Isla of 11 years ago.

DurdleSnore · 18/08/2022 18:54

I prefer Isadora but agree that it will just end up being Izzy. Theodora?

ISADORA ALL THE WAY!! shortened to Dora if wanted

Our doggie is called Dora …beautiful name !🐾

Toosadtocomprehend · 18/08/2022 00:21

My 28 year old Esme absolutely cringes if her name is pronounced Esmay …it really does horrify her…and me TBH ! We chose her name years before it was popular !

DaisyJoy1 · 18/08/2022 00:14

Isadora. Esme is overdone.

BloodyCamping · 17/08/2022 23:25

Prefer Esther

ratussbaguss · 17/08/2022 23:15

Esme will be pronounced and spelled differently to your specifications

Isadora will seem lumped in with the bazillion isabel/Isabelle/Isabella/izzys

Theodora gets my vote

ISADORA ALL THE WAY!! shortened to Dora if wanted

comealongponds · 01/07/2022 13:56

Definitely Isadora, I’m really not a fan of Esme regardless of pronunciation

ChristmasJumpers · 01/07/2022 11:43

Love Isadora, I also like Theadora if you're concerned about the nickname Izzie - though I wouldn't be as there's also Dora, Dottie, Dot, Dory etc.

DontLikeCoffee · 01/07/2022 11:32

Isadora if I had to choose. Esme is everywhere.

bridgetreilly · 01/07/2022 11:24

Dora.

tiggergoesbounce · 30/06/2022 20:38

Definately Isadora.

SkyeBlue28 · 30/06/2022 20:33

Both lovely but I prefer Esmé

Hallowbat · 30/06/2022 20:25

Isadora makes me think of Wizadora a childrens programme from the nineties. Esme is very common I know of lots of them

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/06/2022 20:20

Isadora

Esme done to death, will date, and also 50% of people will say EzMe and that will piss you off.

Isadora is a lovely but strong name, and Dora, Dorey and Dot are all great nns (and you’d be best to pick one to avoid her being one of a billion Izzies)

Hadtocomment · 30/06/2022 18:05

Isadora is quite grand but makes me think of bohemian eccentrics so I like it! But there are a lot of izzies. Would you call her Dora which I do like. I do like Esme too. A tonload in my family tree a couple of gens ago. I used to find it so exotic as a child but now seems quite popular again.

mrsabbott94 · 30/06/2022 17:58

I’ve always loved Esmé but think it will be pronounced wrong quite often (Es-mee/Es-may). Also, it would slightly annoy me to have an accent on my name but that’s just my opinion.

ChagSameachDoreen · 30/06/2022 17:43

Isadora.

Esmé has a really sinister ring to it, like a demon princess.

Rainbowbaby13 · 30/06/2022 17:14

I prefer Isadora because it's not as popular

Ouchmytoe100 · 30/06/2022 16:09

Isadora is so cool and fresh. Esme so overdone.

Frida9 · 30/06/2022 12:50

Esme, Isadora will just get called Fora which is fine but probably not what you're after op

KirstenBlest · 30/06/2022 11:31

It's the feminine form of Isidore, which is a very old name
