Hi everyone!

Still quite unclear on girls names, and are a bit stuck. We’re just playing around with different options, as i can’t seem to decide whether I like a lot of them or not! These are some of the ones we’ve come up with so far, so if you could say your favourites and least favourites that would be great:
Lois
Daisy
James
Blaire
Rory (as a nn, but need a long name to use)
Sunday (seems to be used by lots of celebrities so don’t want to use, but anything similar would be great)

One thing that we’re struggling on is that we want a name that will sound good on a baby and on an adult. Any suggestions that fit the names above would also be great.

Thank you!

Lois - nice enough
Daisy - dislike, not sure why
James - too far into the boys names for girls things for me...love Blake though 😂
Blaire - bit meh
Rory - not a fan
Sunday - love Sunday, also love Tuesday ❤️

Aurora is a pretty name that has the nickname Rory! I also really like Lois:)

KirstenBlest · 04/07/2022 13:58

Rory short for Eleanor is really stretching it.
Ronnie short for Veronica is a bit Eastenders, the Veronica in Corrie was Vera

CharlesIsQueensHorcrux · 04/07/2022 11:47

Rory could also maybe be short for Eleanor? What about Ronnie for Veronica?

Merryclaire · 03/07/2022 11:06

How about Jamie instead of James?

MassiveSalad22 · 01/07/2022 13:49

As PP said, James for a girl in a normal school/neighbourhood ie not Hollywood would be odd. I understand the idea when thinking in the context of an individual family and this tiny fantastic baby, but in 5 years time you’ll cringe yourself inside out having to shout that across the playground, trust me!

FWIW I recently had a girl and really wanted a name that there is no boy version of. Girls don’t need boy names to be strong/cool etc. IMO. To each their own!

LOVE Lois, that was on our list 😄

SVRT19674 · 01/07/2022 13:26

I don´t like Sunday, sounds like a dessert.
Rory as short for another name like Aurora, fine.
The others I don´t mind except James.
James is a boy´s name, and no, it doesn´t work as a girl´s name. It would just make me think you were disappointed in having a girl but charged ahead with the chosen name for said boy nonetheless.

Luredbyapomegranate · 30/06/2022 21:04

Lois - fantastic, underused name, look no further

Daisy - cute but wet
James, no!!!! in the Uk this really is a boys name, and it’s naff for a girl anywhere
Blaire - no it’s an occasional Scottish boys name, and also sounds like someone trying not to throw up
Rory - it’s usually short for Aurora for girls. But it’s so popular as a boys’ name right now, it will be tedious for her. Also Aurora (sadly) has a disney princess vibe at present
Sunday - it’s ok, she’d have to be born on one though. I think it’s possible to pull it off but it can sound very try hard.

Ines
Linos
Annis
Hope
Jeanne - French pronunciation - a drawn out syllable (Je - like “s” in pleasure- a - like “a” in cat - nne- like “ne” in one)
June
Celeste
Roslyn (Roz-lin)
Rosen (Row-zun)
Zoe
Sophie
Xanthe (Zan-thee)
Dora nn Dorey
Marina nn Marnie

In order of preference:

Sunday is my favourite but it is a bit “celeb”. Still pretty and quirky though.

Daisy would be my next choice. Popular but inoffensive.

Lois isn’t my taste but is a good name.

Rory: Aurora or Lorelei are the obvious ones, but I don’t like either and don’t like Rory for a girl. How about Romy?

Blaire makes me think of Tony or bleurgh.

I really hate James for a girl. It is very trendy right now with lots using it as a middle name after Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds used it. Unoriginal and I agree that it’s a double standard.

Romy
Saskia
Greer
Fleur
Sylvie
Quinn
Billie
Merryn
Joni
Wren
Honor
Astrid
Winter
Ellis
Piper
Saffron

This.

Sunnyssoo · 30/06/2022 07:25

How about Blythe rather than Blair?

Theodora is MAGNIFICENT!

daisypond · 29/06/2022 21:32

Lois -OK, but such a drab name. Malcolm in the Middle and Family Guy.
Daisy - OK. A bit insubstantial.
James- it’s a boy’s name, so no. Jane?
Blaire-no. Sounds horrid. It’s a surname. At best a boy’s name spelled Blair.
Rory - for a boy, yes. Not a girl. I really dislike Aurelia, Aurora.
Sunday-not really a name but better than some of your other options.

AliBaliBears · 29/06/2022 21:14

Lois and Daisy are the best by miles.

Blaire is awful.

James and Rory are not unisex names to me. I would just assume you had wanted a boy. (I think Rory as a nickname is fine for a girl but not keen on Aurora - a mouthful of a name).

Bellacatt · 29/06/2022 19:25

Lois - not a fan
Daisy - cute on a little girl, not sure on an adult
James - no!
Blaire - makes me think of Tony Blair or a 'bleurgh' noise of disgust
Rory - I like it. Aurora? Aurelia?
Sunday - I don't like week day names but it isn't too bad

RoseMartha · 29/06/2022 19:25

Lois

Glitterspy · 29/06/2022 18:01

Claire is a lot nicer than Blaire

17caterpillars1mouse · 29/06/2022 18:00

Lois - I want to like it but it just makes me think of the woman out of family guy which I hate.

Daisy - too cutsy for me, I prefer other flower names such as Ivy, Violet, Willow

James - for a girl? I'm not a fan at all. I would hate having such a classical forever popular boys name as a woman. I like it on a boy

Blaire - Tony

Rory (as a nn, but need a long name to use) - I really like on a girl as would go with just Rory or maybe Rora as I hate Aurora

Sunday (seems to be used by lots of celebrities so don’t want to use, but anything similar would be great) - I like it. I would be more concerned of the celebrityness of using James for a girl that using Sunday

KirstenBlest · 29/06/2022 17:55

Lois - nice
Daisy - nice
James - nice for a boy, awful for a girl
Blaire - hideous
Rory - ok for a boy, awful for a girl
Sunday - fine

Lois is by far the best on your list

Glitterspy · 29/06/2022 17:51

I’ve never been a fan of the name Lois, it sounds mousy to me.

Sunday was just on another thread, was that you?

Rory is DH’s name, he’s always having to spell it, it gets confused with Roy a lot and it’s hard for some people to say (he worked in a Japanese company for a few years and got called Lolly, his translated name on his business card was phonetically Lau-lee)

A girl called Sunday or Rory or James in a normal primary is going to get ragged.

moiraandthebebe · 29/06/2022 17:50

Lois and Rory are my favourites. Rory was a nn for Lorelai in Gilmore Girls.

Sundayschild20 · 29/06/2022 17:47

I love Rory for a girl. I'd go for Theodora as the full name.

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/06/2022 17:06

Oh sorry didn’t realise just girls in that case not james for me!

Mumofgirls2017 · 29/06/2022 17:06

Daisy and James, I do also like Sunday!

DogsAndGin · 29/06/2022 16:58

Lois - Just makes me think of very American, middle-aged women like the mum from Family Guy and the mum from Malcolm in the Middle

Daisy - twee

James, Blaire, Rory - boy names

Sunday - hate it. Not a name.

Sorry OP, not my taste
