For August? What do you think?

I don't get this thing on MN for prescribed 'nicknames'. Surely a true nickname is one that evolves over time, not one assigned at birth? Consider shortened versions that might be used yes, although they usually evolve too in my experience, but this earnest assigning of nicknames to a baby who hasn't even got a name yet is, all a bit try-hard for me.

Absolutely this.

Awful, but then so is naming a child a month.

April, May & June are well established names. There maybe a reason why the others aren’t commonly used.

He wont thank you. August isn’t a great name anyway _ unless you are upper eschelons of the Royal family; and even then you’d go with Gus (quite cool)

IStandWithMaya · 24/06/2022 23:57

Just no

housemaus · 24/06/2022 23:51

Gus is cuter, surely? Augie is too close to 'orgy' for my liking.

I love Auggie but don’t like August.

User478 · 24/06/2022 23:44

I never read Wonder, just half watched the film, assumed the kid's name was "Ugly" thought it was an odd choice...

ChagSameachDoreen · 24/06/2022 23:30

Disgusting!

KappaChino · 24/06/2022 22:16

'I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that, your son is called Orgy?'

sageandbasil · 24/06/2022 22:13

Isn't that from bridgerton? Prefer gus

AquaticSewingMachine · 24/06/2022 18:09

It's truly awful, both acoustically and aesthetically.

RuthW · 24/06/2022 18:06

Perfect shortening for August.

StressyMcStressFace · 24/06/2022 12:46

Oi oi oi!

This!

Greenbeanmcgee · 24/06/2022 15:29

Auggie is cute and I love the name August.

Cindie943811A · 24/06/2022 15:25

The trouble with August is that I never know whether it is a version of the classic name Augustus / Augusta etc with the emphasis on GUST or after the month with the emphasis on the first syllable AU
Guess that would also influence the nickname used

Goneback2school · 24/06/2022 15:21

The boy in Wonder is what comes to mind. It's cute.

Wolfiefan · 24/06/2022 15:18

Definitely oi oi oi.

FayCarew · 24/06/2022 15:16

Oi Oi Oi.

Gus is much better esp if short for Augustus

August makes me think Aw gust

emmathedilemma · 24/06/2022 13:45

StressyMcStressFace · 24/06/2022 12:46

Oi oi oi!

this was exactly my reaction too!!

NewYorkLassie · 24/06/2022 13:28

This is MN. Home if the incessant need for nicknames.

RedWingBoots · 24/06/2022 13:21

Give your child whatever nickname you like.

From when s/he is 8 or older they will tell you whether they like you calling them that.

Georgeskitchen · 24/06/2022 13:14

Ugh no. Gus is better but even that's a bit borderline. Does August actually need a nickname? What's wrong with just August?

DotDotDotDotDot · 24/06/2022 13:11

I like it, it’s cute. Auggie from Wonder was such a lovely character though so maybe that’s clouding my judgment.
