Not considering using it but heard it today and realised I haven’t heard a child called graham in years! Anyone know a little graham, thoughts on it? Is it due a comeback?

I actually really like it.

My grandad was a Graeme. In fact he thought he was a Graham until he needed to get a copy of his birth certificate to go to grammar school and discovered the registrar had actually called him Graeme, so then he adopted that spelling.

I know it's dated but I think it has a lovely sound.

The youngest Grahams I know are mid to late 30s.

It's a nonce's name.

What a stupid comment

It's a nonce's name.

randomsabreuse · 21/06/2022 12:13

It's a fairly common surname... so setting them up for a lifetime of being called surname graham and having to correct them. Graeme would not have the same issue.

BobbinHood · 21/06/2022 12:11

The youngest one I know is 39. I think it’s got a couple of generations to go before it gets a comeback.

BiscoffSundae · 21/06/2022 12:10

my mum wanted to call me Susan, I’m glad she didn’t, no offence to any Susans! I guess it’s not ready for a comeback, if ever 😬, it’s along the same lines as Kevin, Keith, etc

I like it! I've only known nice ones. But I also know a teenaged Susan, a preschooler Grey, and babies called Vincent and Judy.

There were a couple in my class at school along with four Susans........ I'll leave you to guess my age😂 I'd say not due a comeback yet!

I wanted Susan for DD too 🙈 again, vetoed.

WeasilyPleased · 20/06/2022 22:22

No. Grey ham.

Ive never liked it

resm · 20/06/2022 22:17

There’s a young Graeme in my family, he’d be about 9 or 10 now. He’s in Canada though so don’t know if it’s less dated there.

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 20/06/2022 21:20

I love it.

DH vetoed it.

I know a Graeme. Absolutely inspirational, scarily intelligent, a role model, awe inspiring, and quite hot to boot.

Even with that's, Graham/Graeme isn't due a come back

ComfyChairPose · 20/06/2022 21:17

I think it's awful. Smarmy and nerdy. I"ve known a couple of awful Grahams which doesn't help. What about Greg or Gray?

JaninaDuszejko · 20/06/2022 21:14

I like it but I'm Scottish. And obviously prefer Graeme. It's a good solid tradition name.

Mrswobblethewaitressiatired · 20/06/2022 21:10

Graham is an old man name but what about Graeme? Is that a Scottish way to spell it?

My friends Guinea Pig is called Graham!

Someone said recently that once names are comedy pet names they will be the next wave to be revived. I think it will be. Just Not Yet.

Sorry that's a lot of 'thinking' in my post Grin

It's funny I was only thinking of this name last night. I was thinking of a child from the 90s called it and thinking it was quite an old fashioned name for a child even then. I don't think it's due a comeback just yet, as others have said it's a very dated 'grey' sort of name.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 20/06/2022 20:21

It literally means 'gravelly homestead'/ grey home. Who wants to be named grey? 😂

celestebellman · 20/06/2022 20:18

It's the name of a certain generation and has not come back into fashion yet - in a similar vein to Colin and Brian...
It's a good, strong Scottish name though, and it doesn't sound that bad if you dissociate it from image of man in his sixties with a cardigan and slippers. I think it will come back at some point.

erikbloodaxe · 20/06/2022 20:14

I like it but then I'm over the hill.
