Struggling to decide!

ShellUK09 · 20/06/2022 10:13

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone is to provide some opinions on our name shortlist as we are really struggling to decide for our baby girl's name due in July. We need to have Joan as a middle name as this is the name of my partner's nana who recently passed away. I like short pretty names, not overly concerned if a name is popular, just want to find something that is easy to pronounce and spell and isn't embarrassing for the child in the future 🙂 Our surname is also short and begins with A. Any other suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Ava
Chloe
Amy or Aimee
Emilia
April
Eloise
Lyla or Lilah
Lelia
Amber

Ava - popular but pretty
Chloe - I'm not keen. Much prefer Zoe or Cleo
Amy or Aimee - I find Amy a bit dull and Aimee is a very annoying spelling
Emilia - I love this
April - ok
Eloise - don't like
Lyla or Lilah - don't like
Lelia - don't like
Amber - really don't like

Emilia would be my favourite but Ava is lovely too

The middle name will hardly get used. Names ending in a will run into the surname.

e.g. Victoria Radams, Anna Randrews

Gnusmas · 22/06/2022 16:32

Anna
Eloise
Pearl
Zinnia
Cassia
Erica
Azalea
Flora
Violet
Ruby

If you chose an A name and you say your surname is also A , do they go together and do you like the sound of it ?

babyjellyfish · 22/06/2022 16:20

Ava - nice
Chloe - like it but it doesn't go with Joan
Amy or Aimee - nice
Emilia - nice and sounds the best with Joan
April - nice
Eloise - it's OK but don't think it really goes with Joan
Lyla or Lilah - Lila or Lilah, not Lyla
Lelia - do you mean Leila? Leila is nice
Amber - it's OK

MumJourney · 22/06/2022 16:19

Or Amelia Joan if you like an A name 😊

MumJourney · 22/06/2022 16:18

I like Emilia Joan best 👍🏻

CoalCraft · 22/06/2022 15:01

ShellUK09 · 20/06/2022 23:09

Thank you everyone for all your comments and suggestions 🙂 I agree that Ava Joan just sounds right, definitely the front runner, but will keep thinking. I've been shouting names out loud around the house lately to see what feels right!

I really like Emilia Joan and Eloise Joan.
Ive not met an Eloise who was shortened to Ellie. Two who were just always Eloise and one who was Lo or LoLo as a small child and the El as an adult

resm · 20/06/2022 21:50

Lovely names, I love Ava the most from your list. Ava Joan is beautiful. If you still want suggestions for A names then I think Anna Joan is great too.

neverwinternights · 20/06/2022 21:29

I love Amy, Eloise, April, and just love Amber and Chloe.

Daisy62 · 20/06/2022 21:29

All your choices sound nice to me. I'm not so keen on Chloe Joan though, as I don't like the two O sounds together.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/06/2022 21:15

I’d go with Chloe, Chloe Joan is good, not too overused

I like April but I’d expect her to be born then.
less so if you went for the French Avril.

Amy Is OK if a bit wet. No point in Aimee

Ava, Emilia are nice but really have been done to death and

all the Lyla/Leila/Lena/Lola/Lyra/Lara/Leah/Lila names blur into one

Eloise she’ll be one of a million Ellies

Amber I just think is a bit naff

DotDotDotDotDot · 20/06/2022 20:17

April or Eloise. The others are all either dated or overused for me.

Cloud16 · 20/06/2022 19:46

What about Ayla or Aila?

ShellUK09 · 20/06/2022 17:11

@Primatrying yes I agree, Ava and Lyla go best with Joan. I love Amber as well. I have a feeling we will wait until she is born to decide properly!

Thanks for your views 🙂

I think Ava and Lyla flow best with Joan, but my favourites from your list are April and Amber.

milkmilkeverywhere · 20/06/2022 13:19

Ava - too many along with Eva, Evie
Chloe - fine but dull
Amy or Aimee - Amy is ok. Aimee is naff
Emilia - dull and too many esp alongside amelia
April - nice
Eloise - meh
Lyla or Lilah - Lyla ok, Lilah no. Lots of similar names tho
Lelia - as above for Lyla
Amber - nice

17caterpillars1mouse · 20/06/2022 13:16

I like Joan :)

Ava - it's ok but there are quite alot about as well as Eva's which is very similar so it personally puts me off

Chloe - beautiful name and I don't know any Chloe's under about 10

Amy or Aimee - I've always had a soft spot for Aimee

Emilia - done to death so I find it dull now rather than pretty

April - lovely name, known but there aren't masses of them around. People on here always say not on a child not born in April but irl I don't think anybody thinks this. It certainly wouldn't bother me

Eloise - not a fan but it's pretty enough

Lyla or Lilah - short L names just make me feel meh. The only exception is Lara and maybe Lyra

Lelia - ditto

Amber - not a fan

I would personally go for Chloe Joan or Aimee Joan :)

ShellUK09 · 20/06/2022 13:06

Thanks for all your views, got a lot to think about but it's helpful to hear opinions ☺️ Ava was the front runner all the way through, although considering Amy and Amber too. My partner now likes Lyla. Guess I like the A names!

Ava - don't like
Chloe - seems a bit dated
Amy or Aimee - Amy of the two
Emilia - too similar to Amelia, but ok
April - no, and not for a July baby
Eloise - too fussy
Lyla or Lilah - awful
Lelia - Leila is nicer
Amber - fine

I'd pick Amber

Amdone123 · 20/06/2022 10:46

Emilia Joan ❤
