It’s abit out there but it’s adorable and not very common which I love. It’s an acquired taste but thoughts?

I used to have a pet mouse called Dixie, named after Dixie Lee. I had no idea the Dixie Chicks changed their name, how silly!

JuneyJune · 18/06/2022 16:04

Dicks + Racist = no

2orangey · 18/06/2022 16:02

Trying to think of a similar name without the negative connotations mentioned by PP.

Pixie (nn for Phillipa / Penelope / any 'P' name)

Trixie (nn for Beatrix / Beatrice / Patricia)

Lexi (nn for Alexis /Alexa/ Alexandra)

Roxy (nn for Roxanne)

Max (nn for Maxine)

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 18/06/2022 15:57

Don't be silly.

Wishimaywishimight · 18/06/2022 15:50

I always think 'how would the name sound if the person was interviewing for a job?' "This is Dixie Watson." Mmmmm. What is cute on a child may not work so well on an adult.

dizzydizzydizzy · 18/06/2022 15:49

Might be cute for a baby but one day that child will be an adult.

Also sounds like Dicky.

Despite cuteness, I would avoid personally.

Rainbowqueeen · 18/06/2022 15:47

people will assume you are racist.

what about Trixie?

Danikm151 · 18/06/2022 15:43

Dixy chicken is what comes to mind

frydae · 18/06/2022 15:33

Dicks. Just no.

User65412 · 18/06/2022 15:32

The racial connotations would put me off. The dixie chicks have recently changed their name to the chicks because of this and they've been around donkeys.

DuchessOfSausage · 18/06/2022 15:28

I know one male named after Dixie Dean and one female whose real first name is something else

hoohaaar · 18/06/2022 14:50

I really like it but the only nickname for it would be "Dicks" and could you imagine her mates shouting that across the park? 😂

toastofthetown · 18/06/2022 14:49

Some pretty awful connotations in America. So much so the Dixie Chicks changed their name. Personally, I'd want something less charged and controversial for my child's name.

Spohn · 18/06/2022 14:48

Definitely needs the middle name Normous.

Trogbog · 18/06/2022 14:46

No, it’s awful.

and why are people so obsessed with finding ‘unusual’ names?! You do realize that ‘unusual’ is the new ‘common’.

bigbootyjulie · 18/06/2022 14:41

I rarely say this about a name but I think it's completely awful, sorry. It has "dicks" right in the first syllable (huge teasing potential!) and it's associated with the slavery and segregation in the US South.

BanditBluey · 18/06/2022 14:27

I'm not keen, it sounds very American. Also Dicks-y isn't great

FredinBread · 18/06/2022 14:23

I'd look up why The Dixie Chick's apologised for their name and are now The Chick's. Historically the mason-dixon line separated where slavery was allowed in America.....the beloved Ol' Dixie and how wonderful life was in the South until the pesky Liberal northerners said they were racist.....sorry!

MadMadMadamMim · 18/06/2022 14:23

Are you from Alabama? If not, I'd probably avoid.

MolliciousIntent · 18/06/2022 14:22

Great name if you want people to think you're a racist. Otherwise no.

Cetrion · 18/06/2022 14:22

And yes the racial connotations that others have pointed out are a bit unfortunate...

Luckingfovely · 18/06/2022 14:22

God, no! Grin

Mrswobblethewaitressiatired · 18/06/2022 14:21

Very linked to slavery and that shitshow of a legacy.

AllPlayedOut · 18/06/2022 14:21

I'd avoid. It has very strong associations with slavery and racism for me.

Cetrion · 18/06/2022 14:21

I would worry that it could invite a bit of bullying as it starts with a 'dicks' sound...

For me personally it also seems like one of those names that's really sweet for a child but would seem weird for a 50 year old.
