It’s abit out there but it’s adorable and not very common which I love. It’s an acquired taste but thoughts?

I know of 2 dixies. It's adorable and suits them

SpaceJamtart · 19/06/2022 21:57

Ive only heard it in the southern US way or as a nickname for people with the surname Dickson.
I like the Trixie Lexi Pixie Roxy nicknames though

I would avoid it because it has some negative connotations, more in America but still...

I agree. However I still like it

easyday · 19/06/2022 21:55

I knew a Dixie. It was a nickname (Harriet). Cute but a bit ye-ha American (she wasn't, she was from New England).

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 19/06/2022 21:54

Trixie is better, although could sound like Tricksy. But it's definitely better than Dixie.

Figgygal · 19/06/2022 21:53

That seems a pretty unanimous outcome there op

Nope. Nearly 13 years ago.

The confederacy massively predates your daughter, you know that, right?

Or are you saying it was OK to be racist 13 years ago?

whattodo2019 · 19/06/2022 21:47

Seriously???? Come on!!!

User2145738790 · 19/06/2022 21:23

Why do people never Google a name they like before coming onto Mumsnet to ask?

JanePrentiss · 19/06/2022 21:18

Nope. Nearly 13 years ago.

<facepalm>

SirChenjins · 19/06/2022 21:11

Do you mean you weren’t aware of the racist connotations 13 years ago?

Seashanty3 · 19/06/2022 21:10

My daughter's middle name Dixie. She is 12 and for a long time didn't like it - but now there is a famous Tik Tokker called Dixie so she loves it!
Sometimes I regret not going with Dixie as her first name, but it sounded a bit porn star, so....

Did the racist connotations not concern you?

Its absolutely dire

Feelingoktoday · 18/06/2022 23:26

Just imagine a teacher calling out your child’s name in a class. The kids will snigger and giggle as they will hear the words Dicks. She will get called Dicksie.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 18/06/2022 23:21

Great name for a cat.

ChagSameachDoreen · 18/06/2022 23:20

Starts with "dicks". So, no.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/06/2022 21:16

No it’s the name for the old South in the US - slavery and all that goes with it.

It’s also a stripper name.

Beatrix/Beatrice nn Trixie?

daisypond · 18/06/2022 17:37

Old Deep South racist connotations. No.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 18/06/2022 17:33

I used to know a lovely old gent who was called Dixon but everyone called him Dixie. I think it depends very much on whether it's the "real" name or nickname.

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/06/2022 17:16

I know a puppy is it's that name and my DH actually asked if they're massive racists Grin

It also gets shorted to Dix which really isn't great either...

sittingnexttochoppysea · 18/06/2022 17:07

For an adult it's not cute. Sounds like a Vegas hooker. Babies grow up to be adults. Who the fuck would want to be an adult called Dixie?!!

cheapskatemum · 18/06/2022 16:47

My first thought was Dixie the paramedic in Casualty

Spohn · 18/06/2022 16:17

How silly of them to have a racist name to begin with? Yes.
