I mean real names not La-A and Lemonjello or Chlamydia or other urban legends.

A friend in the U.S has called her baby son, Sundance. I rather like it in a way though I was taken aback at first.

I met a McLaren recently too, not as unusual as Sundance but not something that you encounter every day either.

A boy called Rocko which I rather liked.

A girl called Misty-Marvel which I was less sure of...

Rocco is a fairly common Italian name. Not short for anything unless you go back centuries. I know two!

Peppa

Oh, and also met two kids (different families) this week called Lion and Awesome. And read about a little girl called Sunday, which I actually quite love. We live in the US!

Someone I know has just named her baby Fox, but I think it quite suits him. Have previously encountered a Satchel and a Brick - not short for anything, just Brick.

Pebbles and Cobalt but both really suited their names!

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 09/08/2022 17:23

I know a Tigerlily and a Hezekial which are rather odd as siblings.

I meant a little "Achilles" on holiday, gorgeous little chap too. In France, so maybe it's quite usual there.

Yes out in the world I'm meeting Sarahs and Daniels, Joshuas and Olivias, Graces and Alexanders.

You're not in a big multi cultural city then?

No. If you read my post you'll see I said about different areas and cultures 😊

So true, real-world ‘unusual’ ≠ mumsnet unusual. Local lady asked for unusual names for her new baby and ended up calling her Isla 😵‍💫

I've been disappointed that everyone in the baby groups I've gone to have such sensible names after reading about all the crazy names out there on boards such as these. The only one that's at all out there is Atlas. It was on a smaller than average baby.

I recently went to a baby sensory group with my friend and her baby. There were two babies called River (a boy and a girl) plus twin boys called Oates and Atlas.

That's genuinely unusual! Although it rings a very faint bell...or am I thinking of Mrs Danvers perhaps?
