I mean real names not La-A and Lemonjello or Chlamydia or other urban legends.

A friend in the U.S has called her baby son, Sundance. I rather like it in a way though I was taken aback at first.

I met a McLaren recently too, not as unusual as Sundance but not something that you encounter every day either.

Croyde for a boy (celeb rower called son after Croyde Bay)
Farley, Oakley (preschoolers currently)

Makes me think of Farley's Rusks but then I am quite old and appreciate that a lot of people wouldn't make that connection.

Tain (Boy)

Place name first name so I wonder if his parents met there.

Just seen Pebbles already mentioned on here! Little girl called Ripley at our local playgroup, found that unusual.

Clawdy · 20/01/2024 09:24

Pebbles. After the Flintstones character.

Belshels · 20/01/2024 08:55

Many years ago I looked after a boy called Zeppelin. Since then I have come across a Pirate and, at my daughter's toddler group, there was a Lettuce - possibly not spelled like that but that's what it sounded like. I also knew (adult) Boniface and Isambard.

Lettice is an alternative spelling of Leticia.

(Waiting to see if DD's name appears!)

I met a Red but she was legally Scarlet.

Lots at work as a social worker that are unusual but in my circle these have made me raise an eyebrow (to be fair my kids names are certainly unusual as not British)

Dorothy
Hamish (no Scottish connection)
Velvet

Dorothy and Hamish are pretty ordinary

Our dog is called Fox - suits him and actually not turned off to it as an idea for a baby 🤔

Flobomobo · 03/11/2023 23:23

my DD went to school with and Ivo - his full name was Ivaylo

TootenCarMoon · 03/11/2023 22:45

A lot of these are really lovely, I love an uncommon name.

I knew a Trinity-Angel a few years ago and have met a Manhattan (girl)

Wolf (boy) Mum was very new-age.
