I mean real names not La-A and Lemonjello or Chlamydia or other urban legends.

A friend in the U.S has called her baby son, Sundance. I rather like it in a way though I was taken aback at first.

I met a McLaren recently too, not as unusual as Sundance but not something that you encounter every day either.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Domino. Every time I see him I want pizza and boardgames

Wilde. I kind of like it (and he's the sweetest wee boy) but then I think hmm... kind of setting him up for negative judgements on his character there.

Chyna. As in China with a y. ....

Bluebird. It's her actual name, not a nickname.

Ocean
Halo

and also recently met a baby “Bo” and when I asked about spelling (as I assumed Beau) his mum said “no it’s spelt B O” - feel kinda sorry for the little guy going to school with that name!

Lando, after the racing driver.

Or Faraday for a girl - loved that.

We have a Faraday in the family, I have never seen or heard it mentioned anywhere outside of our family and she is now20.

A friend's new niece is called Gertrude Mavis, which are two baby names I haven't run into otherwise.

Loki always makes me cringe.

Like did the parents even do a two-minute Google before landing their kid with the same name as a malicious god from a different culture?

Exactly!

VerifiedBot2351 · 16/06/2022 21:11

Arlo.

it’s awful. Even as a dog’s name.

Tudor, Sanguine, Cobain

Sanguine!! 😳😱

I know a Lux and a Lavender. My neighbour used to teach a Strawberry and a Delsey. I also overheard a Saxon the other day.

HoollyWugger · 16/06/2022 21:07

I've had a Lyric, Unique, Prince and Manson in my care. I used to have to go through all the M names in my head til I remembered Manson every time Smile

Love Birdie that a PP mentioned - I know of one too.

I think children just become their names though, and it's eventually just their name - no other connotation.

Woohoomoo · 16/06/2022 20:48

Recently heard a small child being called Jeff/Geoff at soft play.

Shoopshoopshoopshoopshoop · 16/06/2022 20:38

There’s a baby Susan at DC’s nursery which always makes me smile, not unusual on a woman in her 50s but strange on a baby in 2022.

I love old lady names but there’s a Mavis in DC2’s class which seems to be taking it a bit too far.

Love Fox and Faraday.

Lacedwithgrace · 16/06/2022 20:38

Bunty. A very twee name that doesn't really match her personality

I know a couple of oksana's, think it's a polish name so maybe just unusual outside Poland

I know a Sage and a Zulu (Zulu is a white Scottish child with white Scottish parents, no connection to the Zulu tribe)

On holiday in Cornwall in half term, heard a little boy called Onyx.

I have a friend with an Onyx - he's almost a teenager now.

And funny to see people mention Athelstan - I know an adult one, known as Ath.

Also know of babies Sydney (girl) and Cass (boy), which were unusual to me.

@CatLadyDrinksGin
I think the name the poster gave was Nico'tiana, after the flower not Nicotine. 😀

Correct. She was known as Nico.
