Hi everyone, due a baby girl next month and am so bored of debating names with husband! I have narrowed it down to-

Polly Elizabeth
Martha Elizabeth

Elizabeth is a family name. Is Polly too cutesy or Martha too drab?!

Like Martha and Polly, love Phoebe. Polly is a great nn for Phoebe.

ComfyChairPose · 26/06/2022 19:38

Phoebe Elizabeth is lovely

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 26/06/2022 19:33

Polly is a nickname for Mary @KylieCharlene

Molly is also a nickname for Mary!

Bluewedgeshoes · 26/06/2022 18:46

Thanks for your feedback everyone, mostly a mixed bag with some strong views about both. After deciding she would be Polly my husband concluded it sounded like a nick name rather than a full name and we have finally agreed she will be Phoebe Elizabeth!

Both gorgeous!!

Polly Elizabeth
Martha Elizabeth

Which goes best with your surname?

girljulian · 25/06/2022 14:40

My paternal grandmother was called Polly -- in fact her name was Mary Elizabeth. Polly is one of those names that used to be a "diminutive" for various random other names it sounds nothing like.

I quite like both. Martha makes me think of The Beatles' "Martha My Dear" off the White Album (although of course Martha was Paul McCartney's dog)

Ouchmytoe100 · 25/06/2022 14:38

Martha

ChagSameachDoreen · 24/06/2022 23:37

Polly.

Martha sounds like the bleat of a sheep.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 24/06/2022 13:48

I prefer Martha. Polly makes me think of a parrot

uncomfortablydumb53 · 24/06/2022 13:46

I like Martha.. sounds nice as a woman but I find Polly a bit " cutesy"

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 24/06/2022 13:40

My daughter wanted to call her daughter Martha as she loves the name but her parter doesn't pronounce the 'th' correctly. So he would say Marfa.

I love the name and it goes well (better) with Elizabeth.

Martha. They give the best cuddles and kisses.

17caterpillars1mouse · 24/06/2022 12:45

I think Polly is lovely but imagine you have to be a certain personality to be a Polly. I don't think it would suit me.

I like Martha too so would choose that

emmathedilemma · 24/06/2022 12:40

Martha is gorgeous, I find Polly a bit twee.

Luxa · 24/06/2022 09:11

I prefer Martha. Polly sounds too mimsy.

User56785 · 24/06/2022 07:57

I always feel a bit sorry for little Marthas. It's so dowdy. They will never even make it to kitchen maid, just scullery maid for Martha.

Titsflyingsouth · 24/06/2022 07:53

Martha

Can't bear Polly. Sounds like a prissy school prefect to my ears.

chipshopElvis · 24/06/2022 07:48

And she's, rather than answers!

chipshopElvis · 24/06/2022 07:47

Polly. I have one of my own answers she's utterly fabulous. We've not met another one yet.

Maireas · 24/06/2022 07:43

Martha is a lovely, gentle, classic name.
Polly is nice too. A bit less formal, maybe.

soulinablackberrypie · 24/06/2022 07:41

I quite like both, but I think Polly flows better with Elizabeth.

Trinacham · 02/06/2022 22:58

I prefer Martha

Ladylout · 02/06/2022 22:58

Much prefer Martha. Good solid name.
