Both lovely but I prefer Jude.
What about Julius?

stacestation · 01/06/2022 17:47

totally agree. My early 20’s dses have several Louis’ amongst their friends - no one has a problem with the Louee pronunciation.

Also agree.

What tosh. Think of:

Louis Armstrong
Louis Theroux
Louis Tomlinson
Louis Mountbatten
Prince Louis
Louis Walsh…

Louis is generally pronounced Lou-is outside of France. Think of St Louis in Missouri for example

Jude - I have a Jude

Louie

I don't like Jude. It means Jew in German so it doesn't travel well either.

Louie is the more popular spelling in the UK now, as Louis get mispronounced as Lou-is by non French speakers.

GreatCuppa · 01/06/2022 16:50

Jude. Dislike Louis, it’s just wet.

HereIAmBrainTheSizeOfAPlanet · 01/06/2022 13:56

Jude is a bit wet.

heavyistheheed · 01/06/2022 13:53

Louis

I have taught many and they don't tend to get confused for Lewis.

Am not keen on the Louie spelling.

So if you don't like Louis then I would say Jude.

User6761 · 01/06/2022 12:19

I think it's more likely that a Louie will have his name misspelt as Louis, than a Louis will be mispronounced Lewis.

Jude is the German word for Jew, so the association with it being on the yellow stars during the Holocaust puts me off. But objectively it's a nice sounding name.

RebeccaCloud9 · 01/06/2022 11:26

Louie is cute for a baby but a full grown man? Not so sure. Also MEGA popular at the moment. Loads of Louie/Louis in schools. I really like Jude.

HappyHappyHermit · 01/06/2022 11:25

*Jude

HappyHappyHermit · 01/06/2022 11:23

June is lovely, to me Louie or Louis sound wet.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 01/06/2022 11:22

If you spell it correctly, then Louis... love that name Louie looks semi-literate

Jude is quite nice though, too.

withsexypantsandasausagedog · 01/06/2022 11:16

Jude all the way. I don't get the popularity of Louis/ Louie. It seems quite harsh to my ears.

ELM8 · 01/06/2022 11:05

I know a "Lewis" spelt "Louis" so I agree it can be confusing. I like the spelling Louie.. Jude also a lovely name

DariaMorgendorffer · 01/06/2022 10:59

Jude. Not Louie unless it's spelt Louis.

RewildingAmbridge · 01/06/2022 10:58

Jude, I very nearly called my DS Jude, it's not overly popular, is simple uncomplicated, not too out there

stacestation · 01/06/2022 10:53

Jude. Though I prefer 'Louis' spelling over both.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/06/2022 10:35

Louis is lovely. Only spelt like that though.

knackered81 · 01/06/2022 10:34

Nope. Jude the Obscure always springs to mind.

inmyslippers · 01/06/2022 10:31

That's such a tough choice! Both lovely names I can see your predicament. I think Jude just pips it for me

KylieCharlene · 01/06/2022 10:22

Jude.

timestheyarechanging · 01/06/2022 10:19

Jude. I know several Louis and they're all lovely. My ExH grew up with Jude Law and funnily enough, he named his son the same name as my ex. They're no longer in contact, my ex said he was a twat and thought himself better than everyone else and lied about where he went to school!
