Jude because Louie just looks like you can’t spell

chairbae · 02/06/2022 12:10

Louis used to be very popular

"Back in 2004 it ranked 38th in popularity and was given to 1,976 babies."

Chocolatepringles · 02/06/2022 12:09

Love them both.

chairbae · 02/06/2022 12:07

Louie is more popular than Louis for boys in the UK

since when though?

Spidey66 · 02/06/2022 11:49

Both are nice but louie should be spelt Louis. I'm surprised about people thinking it will be pronounced Lewis.....that's spelled Lewis surely?

jlm122 · 02/06/2022 11:44

OP didn't ask about the spelling she asked about the name, it's said the same spelt either way so I'm not sure why people are saying they'd chose Jude purely based on how Louie is spelt and that if it was spelt differently they'd chose that name. It's the exact same name.

AmandaMirandaPanda · 02/06/2022 11:42

🎶 Louie Louie, oh no, gotta go now, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah... 🎶

(Sorry).

I think Louis can be loo-ee or loo-is in English, it's just multiple accepted pronunciations. But loo-is is less common, at least in the UK.

stacestation · 02/06/2022 11:34

Louie is fine and a more obvious spelling than Louis

There can be no doubt as to the pronunciation of Louie, certainly, but I wouldn't agree that there is any doubt with the pronunciation of Louis, it being such a well known name with a long history of use., predating Louie.

I wouldn't spell it Louie because a few ignorant people don't know how to pronounce Louis.

jlm122 · 02/06/2022 11:22

Surely how a name is said in day to day life is more important than the spelling, Louie is fine and a more obvious spelling than Louis. The amount of people choosing one name over the other purely based on spelling is quite frankly ridiculous bordering on immature. It's the same name just spelt differently.

KirstenBlest · 02/06/2022 11:12

Louie looks like the parents can't spell and it does get used by girls as a nn for Louise and Louisa.

IStandWithMaya · 02/06/2022 11:08

Louis (pronounced Lou-ee) is lovely

Louie sounds like a diminutive of Louisa.

pinklavenders · 02/06/2022 10:58

I think the almost 1500 baby boys born per year over the past few years will disagree that Louie is a girls name. Louie is more popular than Louis for boys in the UK

Not a single girl was called Louie...!

SundayTeatime · 02/06/2022 10:35

It’s Louis. Louie is ridiculous, a girl’s name at best. I like Jude, though.

stacestation · 02/06/2022 10:14

Fivebeanchilli · 02/06/2022 10:03

Er no, even outside France most people know how to pronounce Louis correctly.

They do...or should.

Trafficjamlog · 02/06/2022 10:10

Louis.

there will be no problem with people pronouncing it. Can’t abide louie

Fivebeanchilli · 02/06/2022 10:03

Er no, even outside France most people know how to pronounce Louis correctly.

mathanxiety · 02/06/2022 04:33

Louis is generally pronounced Lou-is outside of France.

Nope.

tenjishut · 02/06/2022 02:02

Louis is generally pronounced Lou-is outside of France.

Since when?

tenjishut · 02/06/2022 02:01

Like Louis & Jude

tenjishut · 02/06/2022 02:00

I don't understand the difficulty with the Louis spelling.

Prince Louis
Louis Vuitton
All the King Louis's in France.

mathanxiety · 02/06/2022 01:34

Jude.

You shouldn't ruin Louis just because some people are ignorant.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/06/2022 01:33

Jude - less overused and less fussy

But if you do use Louis please spell it properly, Louie is appalling

VeryQuaintIrene · 01/06/2022 19:50

Do not get the Jude love at all. The obscure, patron saint of lost causes, first syllable of Judas etc. Louie, however spelled, is preferable.

resm · 01/06/2022 19:42

Jude, but Louis a close second.

Newbubs · 01/06/2022 19:09

Not julius - that would sound ridiculous in our area & within our family / friends
