www.britishbabynames.com/blog/2014/01/cedric.html

It may come from Celtic Caradoc, meaning 'beloved'. Ivanhoe and Harry Potter character.
I think it should be used more.

Not keen on Cedric and find Caradog absolutely awful.

MintyCedricRidesAgain · 01/06/2022 13:04

It's a thumbs up from me 😆.

Seriously, not sure. It makes me think of The Raccons.

I suspect it could be one of those names that grows on you though.

bigbootyjulie · 01/06/2022 13:02

I think it's nice and different. The football player is hot lol (Cédric Soares).

celestebellman · 01/06/2022 13:00

I didn't used to like it (would have considered it in same 'wet' category as Cyril and Cecil) but I think it has been revived by Cedric Diggory, who is not a weak character at all (though sadly gets killed early on so, there is that more negative association).
I also think Percy has been saved from this category somewhat by the Percy Jackson books!

ClickClackClock · 01/06/2022 12:56

Cedric Sneer!

RuthW · 01/06/2022 12:51

Love it

stacestation · 01/06/2022 10:52

It's not really my taste. Cedric the cat is beautiful, though @Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

I like both Cyril and Percy and love Cecily for the girl 😂

Me reading that...

What do you think of Cedric

This is the only Cedric I know (and it's turned out she's a girl)

@PoemBeatrice , Caradoc is an ancglicised form of Caradog.
Cedric was a made up name and isn't welsh

It's very dweeby. In the same category as Cecil and Cyril and Percy.

@toastofthetown

I think you are getting confused between Cedric Diggory the character and Robert Pattinson the actor.

''Twas a little joke! 😂

stodgystollen · 01/06/2022 10:13

I know loads of French Cedrics, all around 40, so might be considered dated there. It's pronounced Cedrique.

ElenaSt · 01/06/2022 10:07

Not keen.

I love it, and it goes really well with DD's name so it's on my list for future babies.

I also like Cecil and Nigel however, so take from that what you will! 😄 (I'm not from the UK so have slightly different takes on them, though I do live here, for reference.)

AppleButter · 01/06/2022 10:03

Old Saxon-ish name like Wulfric, Wilfred, Frederic, Alfred. Love it. Would use.
cedric is a tousled-haired archaeologist, softly spoken and kind.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 01/06/2022 09:55

I don't think it's a terrible name at all! French people have it.

Cyril I don't think I like but Cedric could be rocked by a child.

toastofthetown · 01/06/2022 09:52

As in Cedric diggory who died in Happy Potter and then went on to be a shiny vampire in a series promoting pro-life narrative?

Sure, why not?

Stellamar · 01/06/2022 09:13

Not keen. Old and dusty sounding to me.

JugglingJanuary · 01/06/2022 08:54

I think it's horrible. It's fine for a 90 year old, but not a baby. I know they were once babies, but that was then, not now.

axolotlfloof · 01/06/2022 08:51

I don't think it sounds out well.
I don't think my boys would like it.
A no from me.

Tinkerblonde1 · 01/06/2022 08:51

The Racoons!

SirChenjins · 01/06/2022 08:50

I’m trying really hard to think of what my 15 year old and his friends would make of it Grin It’s up there with Cecil, Trevor, Nigel, Dennis and other similar names which fell out of fashion for a good reason. Don’t do this to your child.
