Ada, Rosa or Lily?

Ada, Rosa or Lily for DC2? We have a one syllable surname. Always loved Lily but the popularity is putting us off a bit. Any other suggestions also welcome!

Rosa is lovely and the variations are very good as well: Rosalyn, Rosalind, Rosalie, Rosamund, Rosemary. I love Rosa for its simplicity and dd would have been called that if it wasn't already taken.

I prefer Adeline to Ada and Liliana to Lily.

Floral name uggestions:
Erica, Veronica, Zinnia, Azalea, Calla, Violet, Cynthia, Iris, Suzanne, Delphine, Dahlia, Aster, Cassia, Hyacinth and Romy.

Not massively keen on any of them.

Ada is a drudge's name
Rosa is one of those clichéd 'MN approved' names. I don't like it. I think plain old Rose is far nicer.
Lily is nice. Has been ridiculously popular for the past 15 years but nice all the same.

Princessoftheuniverse · 29/05/2022 01:00

Love Rosa.

All 3 are lovely, but if you've always loved Lily, stick with it - it manages to be both pretty sounding and elegant too imo (thanks to the image of the flower) and it's less popular than it used to be; plus popular names are just that for a reason - it means most people like them! Or you could consider beautiful Lilia? Less commonplace and the 3 syllables works well with a 1 syllable surname.

Having said that, I personally prefer 1 syllable Rose to Rosa - just that touch more classic, simpler and more elegant to me (again thanks to the immediate flower image). Ada is very cool imo, due to awesome historical namesake Ada Lovelace, but objectively the Aid - sound isn't quite as nice as the other two.

Ada - short, sweet, strong, bit vintage. Find Lilly a bit wishy washy, and blends into the many L names around at the moment - Lila, Leila, Layla, Lyra, Luna etc. Rosa is pretty. I know two. Again, Rose / Rosie / Rosalie around quite a bit.

WandaWomblesaurus · 28/05/2022 21:43

Rosa/Rose and Lily are the most beautiful names.

Latenightthoughts111 · 28/05/2022 21:41

My DD2 is also Ada so yes another vote for Ada! Ada young is lovely

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 28/05/2022 21:40

Lizzie Young

Rosa is lovely. Lily is too but she'll probably end up being Lily Y at school.

Rosa - feminine but strong

Moonshine160 · 28/05/2022 21:08

Thanks everyone. Surname is Young. I do love the name Ada but think Ada Young sounds a bit harsh? Whereas a softer sounding name like Rosa or Lily might suit it better. Arghhh I just don’t know!

Rosa, they are all three overused but it’s the nicest and most classic. Lily is wet and Ada harsh IMO.

Adela, Rosanna, Ida, Cecily, Verity, Stella, Esther, Lois, Zara might be other options

Howeverdoyouneedme · 28/05/2022 11:27

Not Lily.

Rosa

DuchessOfSausage · 28/05/2022 11:27

Lily is the nicest but it's been too popular for too long, Rosa is nice, and I don't like Ada.

CharlieBoo · 28/05/2022 10:21

Lily is lovely but I know so many, it kind of ruins its specialness iykwim! It’s become a bit bland.

Rosa is lovely too

Really like Ada x

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 28/05/2022 01:31

I really, really do not like Ada, as a pp said, it's such a dowdy old lady name. However, I have 2 in my nursery class currently, so it's clearly having a bizarre resurgence.

Cloud16 · 28/05/2022 01:16

Rose and Lily are equally lovely.

Ada is fine but might be shortened to Ad or Ads like 'aid/aids' which puts me off.

IStandWithMaya · 27/05/2022 23:00

All lovely names OP. My order of favourite is:

Rosa
Lily
Ada

User6761 · 27/05/2022 22:31

I loved Adah (that spelling) when I first came across it about 20 years ago in a book. I still like it now as either Ada or Adah.

Rosa is nice but I prefer Rose.

There's nothing wrong with Lily at all but it just doesn't really do anything for me.

My current favourite flower name is Iris.

lalaley · 27/05/2022 22:07

I think lily is nicest Smile

orangetriangle · 27/05/2022 21:59

SallyWD · 27/05/2022 21:51

I don't like Ada but I love Ida. I also love Rosa and Lily.

AdaColeman · 27/05/2022 21:44

Ada of course! Smile

HuntingoftheSnark · 27/05/2022 21:42

Ada, definitely.
