We've narrowed it down to 2 names for our baby boy coming soon- Jesse or Elias (pronounced E-LIE-ASS). We like both meanings. I'd just like to know which you prefer mumsnet! Thanks 😊

Elias is nice (but not Elli)

I only know girls called Jessie or Jess. I find it very feminine!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/05/2022 20:25

Elias, I love the shortening of Eli too.

MissPocket · 22/05/2022 20:23

I prefer Jesse

BiscuitLover3678 · 22/05/2022 20:14

I actually really like Jesse. Doesn’t have the connotation where I am, plus I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being effeminate.

mamaduckbone · 22/05/2022 18:29

Elias definitely and Eli is a lovely shortening too

DinosaursEatMan · 22/05/2022 18:18

I absolutely love Jesse but was put off using it by the negative connotations. Elias is lovely.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 22/05/2022 18:17

ah yes, I have never heard that, but it is the logical shortening! Do you like Eli as the equivalent?

Prema112 · 22/05/2022 18:15

@Sillybillypoopoomummy I like Silas too! But I don't really like Si which is what it would be shortened to

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 22/05/2022 18:11

Elias is lovely, Also Silas?

ofwarren · 22/05/2022 18:09

I prefer Elias, mainly because in parts of the UK, Jesse is used as an insult for someone who is weak or effeminate.
