Is this name to ‘out there’?

We’ve struggled with baby boy names and considering naming our baby if it’s a boy : ‘Reed’.
DH is American and more common there but we live in the UK.

The only Reed I can think of is the one from Fantastic Four.

I like it OP.

Reminds me of the names Dean, and Rhys.

Prefer Reid spelling.

Employment agency!!

This.

It's not that bad, but it's not good, and sounds a bit downmarket to me.

Snowiscold · 22/05/2022 23:37

There are worse names, but it just makes me think of something weak and without strength -bends like a reed, etc.

anotherminiadventure · 22/05/2022 23:27

We had Reid on our short list (prefer this spelling!) I also loved Gray

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 22/05/2022 23:24

Reid looks better. Reed makes me think 'reed thin' kinda scrawny.

Firebird83 · 22/05/2022 23:20

I also prefer Reid

Perplexed0522 · 22/05/2022 23:18

I know a Reid and he said he hated his name at school as he got bullied over it in relation to toilet humour.

He had a lot of “Reid wee’d” type comments….

Reid wee’d his pants….
Reid wee’d his bed….
Reid wee’d himself….

……etc etc

Just your usual childhood silliness.

He loves his name now as an adult but he found the teasing difficult to manage during school years.

Personally I really like it!

User6761 · 22/05/2022 23:07

Reid is more of a name to me (albeit a surname). Reed just makes me think of the plants in water.

NotCrossBun · 22/05/2022 20:54

Really like it. But also prefer Reid, just because Reed seems a bit more fragile weedy.

DramaAlpaca · 22/05/2022 20:51

It's fine. Prefer the spelling Reid.

Penguinsaregreat · 22/05/2022 20:49

Only heard it as a surname and seen both Reid and Reed as surnames.

Chickydoo · 22/05/2022 18:33

It's a bit phallic ...

mamaduckbone · 22/05/2022 18:30

My ds goes to school with a Reid - I've never thought it 'out there' but prefer the ei spelling.

ofwarren · 22/05/2022 18:21

I'm not a fan. It's a surname to me.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 22/05/2022 18:19

I prefer Reid.

Hulahihi · 22/05/2022 18:16

I love it. Also prefer Reid.

Roselilly36 · 22/05/2022 18:11

Just sounds like a surname rather than a first name to me.

DuchesOfSausage · 22/05/2022 17:42

I don't like it. It's ok as a surname

Love it, reminds me of the website though!

maddiemookins16mum · 22/05/2022 17:35

It always makes me chuckle when people gush at these more unusual names ‘oh love it’ ‘’it was on our list’ etc, yet they named their own wains Oliver or Grace.
However, it’s ok - have heard far worse.

TrashyPanda · 22/05/2022 17:30

Makes me think of Lou Reed.

which is good

MargosKaftan · 22/05/2022 17:29

I think i prefer Reid. But both Reed and Reid are lovely.

ladygindiva · 22/05/2022 17:24

I like it, but as pp says I prefer the Reid spelling.

BanditBluey · 22/05/2022 17:22

Nothing wrong with Reed/ Reid. Also Reece is quite nice and similar

Georgeskitchen · 22/05/2022 17:21

Yes definitely Reid.
Scottish I think, correct me if I'm wrong
