Which names do you love that generally get a bad reception on MN?

I love surname type names for boys so Lawson, Weston, Darwin etc.

I also think that Kyle and Kai are nice names.

There are others but I'll have to think of them.

Which disliked names do you love?

Amanda. I've seen it described as old fashioned in a bad way, a bully's name and A man duh.
I think it's very warm and elegant though. If you can get past Mandy!

PermanentTemporary · 22/05/2022 17:22

I knew a Candida at school, she was a couple of years older than me so born mid 60s or so. Even in the 80s it was a bit embarrassing for her and I'd never use it but in itself it's really pretty. She went by Candy.

MiseryWIthAStent · 22/05/2022 17:00

Candida 😅

Sonny

I was going to say that. I’ve got a sonny, apparently it’s not even a name 🙄😂

Queenie

Tryagain2020 · 22/05/2022 16:40

Popular names from the 70s and 80s. Most people talk about them like they are so uncool but I love them. Especially Jennifer and Sarah.

TammyOne · 22/05/2022 15:52

Ooh I love Linda! And Dora, Skye and Mercedes.
My likes/MN hates would be Cameron, Darren, Roxanne and Kari.

My favourite girls’ names are Mallory and River.

Judying by previous threads, MN doesn’t like either!

DemBonesDemBones · 22/05/2022 14:57

Antigone.
Rupert.

AceofPentacles · 22/05/2022 14:54

@AgeingDoc I love Mercedes and DS would have been called that if he had turned out to be a girl.

My son has a "dog's name" which is universally hated on Mumsnet but holly willoghby and davina McCall have one

Lavenderlast · 22/05/2022 14:51

Roland, Kaiden, Jayden 👀

pinklavenders · 22/05/2022 14:02

A580Hojas · 22/05/2022 13:58

I love Kai. And Daphne.

AgeingDoc · 22/05/2022 13:26

Mercedes
No. It's not "naming a child after a car", the car company was named after a person.
It's a perfectly normal Spanish name.
But then non English names in general don't seem to go down well around here.

Cornettoninja · 22/05/2022 13:26

Lola gets a hard time on here but I really love it. If there was another dc on the horizon it would be the near the top of my imaginary list.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/05/2022 13:24

Linda. I've always liked it and I still think it's adorable, but nobody on here agrees.

romdowa · 22/05/2022 13:23

Irish names in general. Mumsnet seems to have a thing against them

KylieCharlene · 22/05/2022 13:22

Sonny
