Is this whacky or cool?

Hi what do you think of a name Easton?
I don't want names that are too known or popular, but don't want anything whacky either.

It's a very fine line and just when I think I've struck a nice balance with a name, I worry if it's not a "safe" name.

Any other ideas welcome Smile
Thank you

I agree - Eastern and Easton are pronounced the same.

Yep, definitely pronounced the same.

Like the word 'summer' and the name Summer. Or like the name Ally or the word 'ally' (narrow passageway).
Name Raine and rain ☔️.
Etc.

Is that a bad thing?

Cool on an American kid.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 25/05/2022 12:40

I actually like Clifton!

In my accent it does sound like Eastern, I also prefer Weston but maybe because its Best.

How would you shorten Easton ? At senior I think the obvious would be eggs.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 25/05/2022 12:34

I just think Eastern when I hear it. They sound identical in my accent.

But we don't live in the UK and have never been to Bristol nor we are planning to 😄

That still doesn't make Easton a cool and funky name.

Yes so that's a valid opinion.

Just that a bad association with Bristol is not that relevant to us Smile

Neither it's just American

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/05/2022 08:23

You could call the baby Clifton. After the poshest bit of Bristol.

Pay us a visit!

I work near Easton in Bristol. It's full of tower blocks, next to a motorway and one of the most deprived areas of the city.

@topshotta

I am born and bred Bristolian, Easton isn’t rough. I am guessing you are white so think it is rough cause of the mix

its like calling your baby hartcliffe lol

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/05/2022 00:32

I think there's a chain of newsagents by that name? You used to get them in stations.

It just sounds like a dull brand name to me, I would go back to the drawing board.

thingymaboob · 22/05/2022 14:28

@IrisVersicolor
😁😂
I like Burnham too, like Burnham on Sea

IrisVersicolor · 22/05/2022 11:22

Justkeeppedaling · 20/05/2022 07:21

Easton in Gordano. So no.

I knew it sounded like a motorway service station!

I prefer Weston as in super Mare but I don’t like either.

Babayagadreamhome · 20/05/2022 20:45

Another way to wipe out Welsh history, mythology, literature and culture. Dylan most certainly did not originate as a surname FFS 😡

im from easton in bristol anyone who knows anything about bristol would know it is a rough area i wouldn't name my child that

Retrievemysanity · 20/05/2022 16:44

Wouldn’t be my choice but I don’t think it’s wacky. I know a Wilson and a Hudson along the lines of ‘son’ names if you’re looking for alternatives.

Dawncarter100287 · 20/05/2022 16:29

Easton is my sons name, can you enlighten me on What “type” you associate it with…

thingymaboob · 20/05/2022 14:37

Easton is a hipster / rough area in Bristol, U.K.
Funnily enough, Emerson's Green also a place in Bristol.

Easton is a bit rubbish IMO

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 20/05/2022 14:35

@Doveyouknow

Easton isn’t rough…!
