Is this whacky or cool?

Hi what do you think of a name Easton?
I don't want names that are too known or popular, but don't want anything whacky either.

It's a very fine line and just when I think I've struck a nice balance with a name, I worry if it's not a "safe" name.

Any other ideas welcome Smile

It’s a bit Kardashian-y - North West, Easton West, North South Grin

It’s an OK name, just not my cup of tea.

Easton is the name of a not particularly nice deprived area in Bristol, one of the most deprived in the UK.

There was lots of gang related violence and drug issues there when I was growing up nearby.

Yes, the area of Bristol was my first thought too.

I quite like it, it makes me think of the author Bret Easton Ellis write of American psycho amongst other things - I don't know if that's a good or bad thing?!

I don't feel phased at all by them @ShirleyPhallus Smile so far the negatives are not really relevant to us (like places I've never been to or doubt will ever visit; or a singer from generations ago). If they were relevant they I would prob take them on board a bit more.

i think the only MN approved names are the ever classic dull names like Anna, Victoria, Michael etc. Anything falling outside that is viewed with deep suspicion!

It’s ok but does make me think of Euston Station.

I know you want to make him special bjt do try to find a name that people won’t always ask “and how do you spell that”

I'm Australian, (and a teacher) Easton will be completely fine here. He'd be the only one in the school but it wouldn't be considered odd at all. If you love it then use it.

I don't think it is wacky or cool particularly.I am not sure what to associate it with , apart from Sheena, so it is just a word for me ( and also the name of my grand parents house when I was a child).
Obviously the surname as first name fashion is very prevalent so from that point of view it may feel a bit dated going forward.On the up side, no pronunciation or spelling issues and I think it would be easy to get used to.

Neither whacky nor cool ... but very similar to Eason, which is the W H Smith of Ireland. Not that that is necessarily relevant to you personally! And sadly I'm old enough to remember Sheena making a prat of herself singing with Prince.

And is Bronx really a child’s name now? I’d be tempted to use it for a miniature dachshund.

You'll never find a name that everyone loves so if it feels and sounds good to you then ignore what everyone else thinks!
This 100% because I 100% think people would have something to say about these posts real names / their children’s names.

In fact, I think the baby names board should be abolished. It’s a cesspit of grown women being as deliberately awful about names as they can be, with a whole lot of classism thrown in for good measure.

OP - remember this is just someone's opinion. A pretty unkind way of expressing it too.

The name Easton is neither common nor uncommon in the US. I like it (another opinion). You'll never find a name that everyone loves so if it feels and sounds good to you then ignore what everyone else thinks!

I don't mind it at all. Sorry - I've not read every message in this thread so apologies if this has been answered already - are you in the US? I lived there for a number of years and that name wouldn't be uncommon there at all. Ultimately- if you like it, and it's not an offensive name nor does it have any unfortunate connotations then it really doesn't matter what other people think!
