What do you think? Is it due a comeback? Too plain? I know a few little Joans (mainly Joanie/Joni) but no Janes.

My first daughter has a short Victorian name of the trendier Ada/Cora/Clara/Edith variety and I think Jane would complement it if we had another girl. But I'm also aware that Jane was more popular up til maybe the 60s so as 'classic' names go it might have more of a Susan/Carol/Barbara association.

Love it! Beautiful name, and I have only ever met lovely Jane's.

I’m not into frilly names at all but I do think Jane is a very dull name.

Depends on the surname. Long surname good, short surname not so good.
Jane Cadwallader? Good. Jane Alexander? Good. Jane Brown? Boring.

Works the other way around too, like Araminta Stone can work but Araminta Cadwallader sounds silly.

Love it love it love it!

Love it. Classic.

Not keen on it as a middle name as it was a filler middle name in my age group.

I like it, and Janie for a nickname

Yika · 19/05/2022 17:47

Love it. Definitely due a comeback.

zafferana · 19/05/2022 17:46

Go for it OP. I love a simple, classic name.

ladycarlotta · 19/05/2022 17:43

glad to hear this! I find it beautiful, simple, and evocative of many great namesakes but I wasn't sure if that carries over.

I like Jane. It was in the top hundred between 1904-1984 so I think that's why it feels less tied to a generation than Carol. I'd like to meet a baby Jane.

midsomermurderess · 19/05/2022 17:40

Go for it. So many great Janes down the centuries. It’s a bit of a palate cleanser too, after years of very feminine, frilly names. It’ll stand out.

LadyLothbrook · 19/05/2022 17:32

I love it. Beautiful name.
