What do you think? Is it due a comeback? Too plain? I know a few little Joans (mainly Joanie/Joni) but no Janes.

My first daughter has a short Victorian name of the trendier Ada/Cora/Clara/Edith variety and I think Jane would complement it if we had another girl. But I'm also aware that Jane was more popular up til maybe the 60s so as 'classic' names go it might have more of a Susan/Carol/Barbara association.

I know two Janes & they’re fabulous kickarse women.

Mol1628 · 19/05/2022 20:11

Beautiful name.

darlingdodo · 19/05/2022 20:11

Really like it. Uncommon, pronounceable, elegant. Janey is nice for a little girl too.

MissPocket · 19/05/2022 20:08

I like it!

jammyrose · 19/05/2022 19:44

I know a 25 year old Jane, she’s a friendly, bubbly person - it suits her!

Turnedacorner · 19/05/2022 19:35

Jane is classic and beautiful, go for it!

SummerHouse · 19/05/2022 19:24

For me it's the female equivalent of James. Love. It.

miltonj · 19/05/2022 19:21

I absolutely love Jane.

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 19/05/2022 19:20

I adore it. Would have used it, but DH vetoed it on 'plain Jane' grounds. I would be perhaps a little concerned about that? I think the name is beautiful, but I would worry about labelling her plain forever (especially if she is!).

*Obviously she will be beautiful and perfect just the way she is, but people can be dicks.

Tlollj · 19/05/2022 19:03

I’ve got a dd named Jane I love more now than when she was born 40 years ago. The dd as well as the name 😀
Only one I know too

Goldfishmountainclimber · 19/05/2022 19:01

I really like it, op.
And I agree that it would work better with a longer surname.

Love it! Beautiful name, and I have only ever met lovely Jane's.

I do try and be lovely Grin

I love the name Jane.

Despite knowing a few middle aged Janes I actually immediately think of Jane in Pride and Prejudice (but not Jane Austin herself?). You don’t find Sharon or Tracey in Jane Austin so I don’t think you can possibly put Jane in a 60s name bucket.

Miss Austen would no doubt be asking 'I wonder who this Jane Austin is'.

Classica · 19/05/2022 18:29

I can see its merits but I do find it very pedestrian. Agree with the person who said don't pick it if you have a boring surname. I'd hate to be a Jane Smith. Could cope with being a Jane Cavendish.

janeyhello · 19/05/2022 18:29

I'm a Jane and it is the most boring 70s name ever. Wish I'd changed my name years ago. I suppose it's not so common now.

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2022 18:26

Jayne is awful

thewhatsit · 19/05/2022 18:25

And yes, whilst Jane is beautiful Jayne is hideous.

I love it with a Y, Jayne

No! That ruins it! Please no Y

BraveryBot9to5 · 19/05/2022 18:21

I love its simplicity

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/05/2022 18:20

I love it with a Y, Jayne

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2022 18:19

I don't think it's boring at all. I don't know that many Janes, and i think of Jane Birkin, Jane Asher, Jane Austen, Jane Garvey, Jane Seymour, Jane Fonda, Jane Eyre...

Quite a refreshing change from all the Lily, Ella, Eva names

SpaceJamtart · 19/05/2022 18:12

Jane is good in that its not actively embarrassing or silly or likely to hinder her in any way.
But it is maybe the most boring name I could think of.
I wouldn't give a child a dull and flat name just because it compliments her sisters.

DidiSharma · 19/05/2022 18:01

NO because of the 'Plain Jane' comments.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/05/2022 18:00

It's my middle name. I think it's a bit dull but ok. I envy my sister for getting Francis as hers. I love that!
