Help!!!! Girls name - Lydia or Verity?

plzhelpmepickaname · 19/05/2022 14:54

Our baby girl is due soon, and we're really stuck on either Verity or Lydia as a name.

Middle name is likely to be Grace or Jane (although I'm not overly keen on Verity Grace - too many virtue names in one name!)

Looking to gauge opinions on which one people like best?

PS, before it comes up, yes I do know there are words that rhyme with these names, and no, I'm not concerned about that :)

I think both names are pretty, but given they are quite unusual, I'm now thinking, is the reason they are unusual because no one likes them?? 😂

Please help!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!

Verity

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 24/08/2022 11:40

Beautiful. What a gorgeous and uncommon name.

For anyone that's interested and seeing as you all took the time to respond and no one ever seems to update these threads...
We chose Verity. 😊

Lydia always reminds me of Beetlejuice (not a bad thing, one of my favourite films), I prefer Verity though (might be slightly because of my love of Colleen Hoovers novel of the same name).

TwinklingFairyLights · 11/06/2022 00:05

I went to school with a Lydia and a Verity, we're all 43 now. Both lovely girls and lovely names. Very unusual, don't think I've come across another of either since school.

soulinablackberrypie · 10/06/2022 23:49

I like both but I think I slightly prefer Verity.

mathanxiety · 08/06/2022 17:18

Lydia is much nicer than Verity, which always reminds me of ferrets.

honestogod · 08/06/2022 17:16

Agree re Grace middle name. We have a Verity Helena Ruth, I think Ruth works if you want one syllable is nice I think

BungleandGeorge · 07/06/2022 00:07

Definitely Verity

peaceinourtime · 07/06/2022 00:01

Lydia Hawksworth Keeping Up Appearances.

Weirdly this is the debate I was having when my daughter was due 3.5 years ago. I love both names but ended up going for Lydia as my husband wasn’t a fan of Verity. It fits my daughter perfectly and we very rarely come across any others. I would love a sibling to be called Verity or maybe Felicity. I picked Lydia as I didn’t want any nicknames although mother in law still calls her Liddy which annoys me.
With regards middle name I agree Jane or Grace sound a bit dull, we went for Sapphire (not brave enough to have it as a first name!).
Oh and having a toddler, it’s a name I’ll happily shout across a play area when necessary!

Lydia. Lovely name and one of my favourite Dean Friedman songs.

I love this song too . If I had had a girl I would've chosen Lydia

AtwilightRebellion · 03/06/2022 06:19

I love Lydia. I know 2. Lydia Valentina and Lydia Victoria.

Verity is nice too but I prefer Lydia.

marblemad · 03/06/2022 06:06

Lydia it's a fantastic name, I think both Grace or Jane could go with it, it really depends on the last name so write both out and say it a few times to see which one feels better.

Verity is a tad snobby in the wrong way.

Workawayxx · 02/06/2022 22:30

I prefer verity, such a beautiful name. Verity Jane is lovely.

sausagesandchamp · 02/06/2022 22:10

Lydia is beautiful. Verity is okay.

Grace is so overused now (think Mae/Rose!) I like Jane though.

RuthW · 02/06/2022 17:47

Verity by a mile.

SE13Mummy · 02/06/2022 17:45

I love both names but Verity has the edge for me. Lydia, Miriam and Verity would be the names I'd give to my imaginary triplets...

As for middle names, I prefer Jane, Kate, Ruth, Alice, Susan or other short names to Grace.

Mosmuma · 02/06/2022 17:38

I like both but Lydia is more like Aunt Lydia to me - from Gilead

stacestation · 01/06/2022 03:12

They're both lovely names, but I do prefer Verity. I agree about not using Grace, if it's the only middle name, as that would be too many virtue names.
