Looking to honour a family member and use this name or a name relating to this for the baby girl. Any ideas? I know it's not the most popular name ever! Happy to change it a bit to make it softer but not sure how.

Latin name for Jill is Juliana

LaLaLouella · 18/05/2022 21:42

I think it's a rather forgettable name

Jillian is quite nice though - gives it a bit more oomph!

I like it because it reminds me of

Jill is a lovely name.

Well I love Jill on it’s own as a first name. Pretty, not too popular, and nice and simple. Jillian would also be nice.

This might not be too helpful, but in general if you are honouring someone your should just use their actual name. I mean, Jill is a form of Jillian, which is a medieval variant on Julian, so you could twist it so that Juliet is an honour name, but if I were Jill, then I wouldn’t really feel the name was after me.

I’d stick Jill in as a middle name and talk to your child about the Jill they were named after. The middle names I’ve picked for my children wouldn’t be my first choice based on the names alone, but I love them for their meaning to my family.
