If only dads named babies....

Came across an old thread on baby names husbands/partners had suggested. A common theme seemed to be men suggesting really dated names, like those of school friends/work colleagues, or really out there names of comic book characters. Got me wondering what names would be in the top 10 if only dads were allowed a say in the naming....

To get us started, my DP thought Mark or Steven was the perfect choice for our son born in 2021! Good, solid names he said 😂

Merlin and Morganna 🙄

EdithStourton · 17/05/2022 22:44

Gary and Churchill have cracked me up. It's a combo that would certainly entertain the staff once they started school.

NamechangeFML · 17/05/2022 22:40

Dh usually has no imagination so it would've been Bob the baby! Dug the dog. Cathy the cat...

He wanted Roddy for a boy
But camille or florence for a girl? Was surprised until i realised theyre both characters on Death In Paradise , which he had binged the whole 8 series of in the first lock down hahha door

If we'd had a girl my really rather sensible and level headed DP insists she would have been called Calypso. And he means it.

Thank feck we didn't.

I do love these threads. It gets batshit real quick 😂

I also love the 'names turned down by the registry office' posts. There was one not long back where an office in France had refused the name Bob l'eponge.

It was DEFO a Dad who thought it would be a great idea to call their kid Spongebob!! 😆

Did he get the name Calypso from The Chamomile Lawn?

ColinRobinson · 17/05/2022 22:38

Boy - Wolfgang
girl - either Deborah or Charmaine

soundsystem · 17/05/2022 22:31

DS would be called Oscar

DD would still be without a name at age 7 if it were left to DH!

SurpriseSurprise · 17/05/2022 22:31

I’ve told DH you all think he’s lost the plot by wanting to call boy twins Gary and Churchill and he’s taken that to mean that we really should call them that

No! It really doesn’t!!

Ringo11 · 17/05/2022 22:26

My DH liked Bodi or Bohdi - I said it sounded like bogie! So it was a no

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/05/2022 22:18

If it had been entirely up to DH, our firstborn son would have been named fucking Cornelius. Sod that for a game of soldiers, his name is Chris. Which is nice.

littlemisslozza · 17/05/2022 22:12

DH 'jokingly' wanted to call DS1 Spartacus. I don't think he really was joking though!

Whelmed · 17/05/2022 22:08

Dh chose our DS's first name. For our daughter he really wanted Marion or Aya.

dancinginthesunliteee · 17/05/2022 22:03

My DH has had okay names to be fair, although our latest addition he suggested Herbert.... thank god shes a girl hahaha

Oh and this is possibly outing as these names are pretty rare (and ridiculous), my ex fiancee (who I was with for almost 3 years before DH), when we discussed names for future children, wanted Rolando and Rogero! His surname also started with a Ro sound and ended with an ee sound. I almost died laughing the first time he told me and told him it was a hard NO WAY! 😂
We agreed on Zach and Cameron. I FaceBook stalked him a couple of years ago (because I am nosy) and he has a son called Zach! I found that a bit weird tbh as, when I eventually did have kids, it didn't feel right to discuss names I'd picked with someone else.

Is your ex Wayne Rooney? because in that case, they could definitely pull it off. Otherwise, not so much! Grin

DS would be called Henrik Larsson. It would be okay whilst we were at home but at large family parties DS would be one of about ten.

I suppose could have been worse...Pierre Van Hooijdonk? 😂

Tails. - then got really offended when my nose visibly hit the roof in disgust.

“We’re having a baby not a dog!”

“I wouldn’t call a dog tails”

Skinterior · 17/05/2022 21:26

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/05/2022 20:55

I would be called Morag if my Dad named me.

My daughter would be called Samantha if DH had his way.

mogtheexcellent · 17/05/2022 20:51

Kimberly or zebedee

We have a 5 syllable surname Hmm

I’m currently pregnant with indentical twins, DH has suggested Gary because he’s heard it’s a dying name. There’s a reason for that. Randomly also Churchill (?). So if my twins are both boys they’d be Gary and Churchill.

Girls wouldn’t get off lightly either, they would be Marigold and Everly. Oh and he thought Primrose would be a lovely middle name for Marigold.

No chance!

Gary and Churchill 🤣 I don't know if I'm just exhausted or what but this has ended me 🤣

cafedesreves · 17/05/2022 20:37

Lenny or Larry for a boy

Not sure about girls

PaddlingLikeADuck · 17/05/2022 20:33

My husband named both our sons (now aged 8 and 5) because I didn’t feel strongly about any boy names. I was very nonchalant about the naming process to be honest.

I love the names he chose though so it all ended well.

heavyistheheed · 17/05/2022 20:31

Sizzla

(For a middle name). After the reggae artist. And no I'm not on a wind up.

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/05/2022 20:20

Dale.

Just no

CoralBells · 17/05/2022 14:48

One of my kids has a name I loved when I was at nursery school and never stopped liking!

user3199 · 17/05/2022 14:42

WakeWaterWalk · 17/05/2022 11:42

Chris and Nick.
These are the names I guess he wanted in the 70s/80s growing up!

I think you've hit the nail on the head - I think my partner was thinking of names he wished he'd had. (His name is a bit unusual, he'd have rather had a bog standard 70s/80s name)

Very impressed by the 'creativity' of many of the dads mentioned on this thread!
