Hi!
Partner is Danish and we'd like to give our new little one (yet to arrive) a Danish name.
Have looked up the common ones but nothing has stood out. Thanks :-)

I like Søren, Solvaig and Pernilla but for all I know they’re in Derek/Doreen territory. Presuming most people answering are Brits, suggestions will be quite hit and miss.

Leif or Soren for sure.

Katherine/Karen/Karin for a girl.

Definitely, mauwnoose!

I remember when Borgen was on and a colleague was wondering why they'd changed the son's name for the subtitles. She had no idea they were saying Magnus.

All the Danish babies that I know have very non Danish names, e.g. Lily, Molly, Emma, Hugo, Harry etc.

That's fair, Sophia's and the like

If you are in the UK, i'd use an english name. if you are used to how a name sounds in the original language it will sound wrong in the anglicised pronunciation.

Freja and Magnus sound quite different in Danish

Definitely, mauwnoose!

Morten I find a bit harsh, and Henning very German rather than Danish.

Boy or girl?

Do you speak Danish?

I like Esben for a boy, though I don't think most English speaking people would get the pronunciation right first time. Girls names are more difficult I think, as a lot of the ones that look straight forward actually have a difficult pronunciation for an English speaker. I like Janne.

We don't know the sex as of yet.
Esben was a fave last time round but have gone off it now, not sure why!

I don't think the Danish pronunciation of Freja works well in the UK. And my Danish husband would absolutely refuse to say it how it is commonly said in English.

Same here!

Just watch the pronounciation as it can be different, especially with the girls names.

Morten,
Martin,
Lars,
Henrik

Pernilla,
Erna,
Anna,
Freja
