Hi!
Partner is Danish and we'd like to give our new little one (yet to arrive) a Danish name.
Have looked up the common ones but nothing has stood out. Thanks :-)

midsomermurderess · 19/05/2022 15:52

Oh, that’s a pity.

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2022 15:20

it sounds too much like Lurgy

midsomermurderess · 19/05/2022 15:12

I also think Laerke (Lark) is pretty, but that would cause pronunciation issues.

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2022 10:38

I think that Magnus is Mao-noos (mao like chairman mao) in some countries but not sure which.

Friend has a half-danish grandson and he's Mag-nus

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2022 10:36

Yes, like Fryer but the r is throatier sort of like Frrry-uh

RumAndCocaCola · 19/05/2022 10:10

Fryer and Konral 😉

midsomermurderess · 19/05/2022 10:00

How is Konrad is pronounced in Danish?

HailAdrian · 19/05/2022 09:39

How is Freja pronounced in Danish? I'm intrigued!

Enko · 19/05/2022 09:36

I'd pronunciation is important then I would not recommend C/Konrad. Its pronounced differently in Danish to how it is in the UK
I have a Conrad (I am the Danish side of my marriage) and he quite likes the 2 different pronunciations but recognises it's a much softer sound in Danish to English. I still love the name.

The only Danish/English couple I know (living in Denmark) called their DCs Emma and Oliver.

I know some Norwegians with DCs called Nelly, Lotte and Jens.

Dorthe

An English person is very unlikely to be able to pronounce Dorthe correctly

Allegra82 · 18/05/2022 09:05

My fav are Lotte and Mathias
agree you need to think if you want it to be pronounced the danish way or English, or if you want a name which is pronounced the same

Leif or Soren for sure.

Life and Serrn are how they're pronounced in Denmark, neither of which I like very much. I wonder if I'm too fussy!

I like Søren, Solvaig and Pernilla but for all I know they’re in Derek/Doreen territory. Presuming most people answering are Brits, suggestions will be quite hit and miss.

Pernille is lovely, Soren seems so common now. And its pronounced Serrn in Denmark not Sore-ren as people are doing here.
