What are people's thoughts on Calliope (Ka/Kuh-Lie-Oh-Pea) with a nickname of Callie?

We love "different" and toying with this currently 😊

Thanks all, I do think there will be a fair amount of correcting pronunciation to be fair, but not sure that outweighs our love for it at the moment.

I've never watched Grey's, is the character memorable in good/bad ways?

It's always worth remembering with names that are likely to cause problems being pronounced that whilst it might not bother you, it may bother your child.

Also the character is a main character she's not awful but has her moments and will be the first thing most people think of as the name is so uncommon and the show has run for so long.

Whoops pressed post too soon.

I don't think of any tv characters, I think of the instrument. But it's a lovely name and was on my list but vetoed by DP.

Arizona?

If people can pronounce Penelope then surely they'd be fine with Calliope.

mubarak86 · 15/05/2022 20:08

It's a Greek name and Poppy is the typical nickname. I think it's lovely.

Love it. Growing up I had a friend called Callista, with the emphasis on the first syllable. She was a Callie

It's a popular character's name on Grey's Anatomy. The same actor played Che in the new sex in the city. That's my instant association. Also I would assume there's Greek heritage somewhere.

Yep greys anatomy was my first thought too. I would also be very surprised to meet a Calliope who didn't have some Greek heritage.

MySleevesMayBeGreen · 15/05/2022 20:06

Love it and also Callisto.

I do love this name and it's so elegant- we did consider it too- but couldn't get over the 'pee' at the end Blush
