What connotations spring to mind? (apart from Moses' sister of course)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think of it as a Muslim name - maybe Iranian. But one of those crossing cultures between East and West names.
It is a lovely name and I like how it can be shortened to Miri or Mimi

My immediate thought was middle aged marriage counsellor. Then I saw the mentions of Miriam Stoppard and realised why I had that notion!

Ihatethenewlook · 09/05/2022 08:08

The tv show with the transvestite in (there’s something about Miriam)

NoSquirrels · 09/05/2022 08:07

The Marvellous Mrs Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan); a Mimi of my acquaintance (fabulous association, she’s a delight); Miriam Margolyes (amazing).

If I had another baby it would be on the list for sure.

Mumofgirls2017 · 09/05/2022 08:07

Bit frumpy somehow; sorry!

Kingstone · 09/05/2022 08:03

Marvellous Mrs Maisel (her name’s Miriam shortened to Midge)

User3568975431146 · 09/05/2022 07:55

Stoppard and Margoyles

CakesOfVersailles · 09/05/2022 07:53

I don't really have any associations with the name, except that it's the name of a childhood friend's absolutely lovely sister. She would be about 30 now, I think.

TrashyPanda · 09/05/2022 07:53

Older lady. A bit stuffy and boring.

endofthelinefinally · 09/05/2022 07:52

It is a beautiful, Jewish, biblical name. I love it.

BeyondMyWits · 09/05/2022 07:51

Church.
I know 2 Miriams one about 80 , stalwart deliverer of parish magazine, the other I only found out her actual name last year, late 50s known as Mimi.

Jalapinot · 09/05/2022 07:50

Prince of Egypt/bible for me

BonnesVacances · 09/05/2022 07:45

It's a popular name in Spain and so it makes me think of a Spanish lady I know.

icelollycraving · 09/05/2022 07:42

Miriam Stoppard. I remember her on a programme in the 80s. can’t remember the name of it but remember the time. She was matter of fact but kind as I seem to remember.
I think her husband left her for Felicity Kendall.

dizzydizzydizzy · 09/05/2022 07:36

A Miriam I used to work with. Mid 50s, friendly but a smoker.

Beamur · 09/05/2022 07:35

My friend!
She's lovely. Very kind and friendly.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 09/05/2022 07:33

Would have been Dc3's name had he been a girl. I love it.

Honaloulou · 09/05/2022 07:31

My main association is loving the name for a potential DD, but not loving any of the nicknames.

I’ve thought about this - and Imogen which for some reason I see as its pair - too much!

BusterGonad · 09/05/2022 07:29

Miriam Stoppard, she was the one who designed my breast feeding bras from Mothercare. Circa 2008! 😁

MolliciousIntent · 09/05/2022 07:28

An older lady with cats.

CosmopolitanPlease · 09/05/2022 07:28

Miriam Stoppard. Would listen to your problems sympathetically.

Or Margolyes. Would fart with abandon then tell you to fuck off.

Sunbird24 · 09/05/2022 07:27

I know a Miriam, nickname Mim. I love it.

BubblegumIceLollies · 09/05/2022 07:26

The Armish. I have no idea why, I must have watched a documentary with one in.

Solosunrise · 09/05/2022 07:26

I went to school with a very sweet little Miriam when I was about six. I've always thought it was a pretty and quite unusual name.
I didn't know it was a biblical name at the time.

Palmtreechacha · 09/05/2022 07:26

A much older person, a Christian lady perhaps.
