Ottie sounds like Otter gone wrong

Esmeralda is dreadfully clumpy.

pinklavenders · 09/05/2022 14:27

Esmeralda is beautiful!

She could shorten it to Esmy.

I hate Otter or Ottie.

queenofmay · 09/05/2022 09:32

These are two incredibly different names. I'm surprised you're considering both, honestly.

I'd go with Esmeralda, though I do think it work better on someone who has the heritage to back it up (e.g. Spanish, Portuguese...). I'm not sure I could pull off being called Esmeralda. Also, be prepared to correct the "EsmerElda" mispronunciation.

I've never heard of Ottie before and it sounds more like a nickname to me than a real name.

Both dreadful. Is Ottie even an actual name? Sorry, but I'm really not a fan.

Agree

Unmute · 09/05/2022 00:39

For a human child? Both are terrible.

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/05/2022 00:36

They are both crackers.

ottie isn’t a name, other than a nn for a jolly otter. 🦦

Esmeralda will just make people think hunchback

are you in fact naming a jolly otter? I hope so

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/05/2022 22:51

Ottilie and Esme are nicer

Chaoslatte · 08/05/2022 22:41

Ottie = potty
Esmeralda too strong hunchback of Notre Dame connections. I can’t imagine real life adults with either of these names.

CambsAlways · 08/05/2022 22:40

Not a fan of either sorry

pinklavenders · 08/05/2022 22:38

Esmeralda is beautiful

Ottie/Otter is awful

PukkaP · 08/05/2022 21:42

Neither

SmiledWtherisingsun · 08/05/2022 21:40

Ottie is short for Ottilie

ABrightSilverLining · 08/05/2022 20:35

Esmeralda is lovely.

SoftSheen · 08/05/2022 20:24

Ottilie or Ottoline are fine, but not Ottie (as anything other than a nickname)

PeekAtYou · 08/05/2022 20:21

Anything about Ottie

Firebird83 · 08/05/2022 20:19

Esmeralda

saraclara · 08/05/2022 20:16

I can't imagine being an adult woman in a professional role with either of those names.

Your not naming a doll, you're not naming an eternal cute toddler. You have to give a baby a name that will still hold good when they're six months, six years, 36 and 56 years old.

ofwarren · 08/05/2022 20:15

Definitely Esmerelda. Ottie sounds like the name of a soft toy otter.

toastofthetown · 08/05/2022 20:12

I've only heard Ottie as short for Ottilie and I don't love it as a standalone name (though Lottie is a top 100 name and is also a nickname). I prefer Ottilie to Esmeralda, but Esmeralda to Ottie.

Kat1953 · 08/05/2022 20:02

I love Esmerelda!

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 08/05/2022 20:00

Is Ottie going to be short for Otillie or charlotte (and hopefully not otter)? And I love Esmerelda.

delshell · 08/05/2022 20:00

Not a big fan of either, sorry. I've never heard of Ottie. What about Esme?

KirstenBlest · 08/05/2022 19:58

Both dreadful.
Emerald might be an alternative to Esmeralda

Marty13 · 08/05/2022 19:51

Neither, sorry.

If I had to choose at gunpoint then Esmeralda because Ottie isn't really a name - at best it's a nickname - and makes me think "Otter".

User3568975431146 · 08/05/2022 19:50

Neither I'm afraid. Ottie would spend her life correcting from Ollie to Lottie and even then it's not great. As for Esmeralda! It's Disney time with that name, poor wee soul. You could go for Esme but on its own not short for Esmeralda, I'm cringing for her.
