Esmeralda is beautiful!

WaitinginVain · 13/05/2022 20:24

Esmeralda.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 13/05/2022 20:17

No idea why people are being so rude about Esmeralda. It is a perfectly normal name. Ive taught an Esma short for Esmeralda.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 13/05/2022 19:37

Although..... you definitely didn't say it was for a friend.... 🤭

NotMaryWhitehouse · 13/05/2022 19:36

Fair enough OP, I just thought you were being highly indecisive!

GeminiTwin · 13/05/2022 18:05

Is Esmeralda an actual name? Nahhh. Clunky mouthful.

Ottie is nice but only for a nn Otilie

KezzabellaB · 13/05/2022 17:56

Sorry I think they're both horrible

Gigi97 · 13/05/2022 17:47

@NotMaryWhitehouse the above reply from myself was meant for you. And by “a lot” you mean 3? Including this one. Which like I said was for a friend. I posted 2 threads for boys names I’m considering.

Ottie is too much like hottie or totty, sorry 🙈 she’ll be subjected to a lot of jokes if you name her that. Maybe try Ottilie?

Esme is ok, Esmeralda is a bit of a mouthful but I don’t hate it

DogsAndGin · 13/05/2022 17:42

Ottie is a nickname at best.
Esmerelda is ridiculous.
Neither are appropriate for an actual human to live with.

Gigi97 · 13/05/2022 17:39

I’m having a boy. I posted this for a friend who’s having a girl & considering these 2 names x

Are you having twins OP?! You've started a lot of name threads in the last few weeks 😂

jammyrose · 13/05/2022 10:49

I’ve only heard Ottie as a shorter nn for Ottilie which I quite like, maybe go with that so she has the choice of whether to shorten it?

peaceinourtime · 12/05/2022 00:30

Ottie is nice, where as Esmeralda is a bit of mouthful and will definitely get shortened.

veronicagoldberg · 11/05/2022 22:32

Ottie? Have you taken leave of your senses?

Esmeralda is awful too.

yikesanotherbooboo · 11/05/2022 22:31

Ottie doesn't sound substantial enough for a name.
Esmeralda is better but not to my taste , it has the whiff of a dodgy fortune teller in an unsophisticated murder mystery.

Squeezyhug · 11/05/2022 22:09

I love the name Esmeralda

babyjellyfish · 11/05/2022 22:03

I don't really like either but at least you could shorten Esmeralda to Esme.

Ginandslippers · 11/05/2022 17:51

Sorry but Ottie is dreadful. I'm northern and so to me it sounds like the word hotty when someone drops their H. I assume you're not Northern as actually it sounds even worse when I say it aloud. Ott-eh

Catshaveiteasy · 11/05/2022 17:47

Sorry, neither

frenchie4002 · 11/05/2022 17:45

either are pretty, though as pps have said perhaps Esme is more wearable? I know two Otties so it’s definitely a real name!

SupetArt · 11/05/2022 13:24

I know a 25 year old Esmeralda and she absolutely hates it. She insists on being called Esme and even on her wedding invitations refused to have her full name.

Emerald is slightly better?

FlamingoDust · 09/05/2022 21:01

Love Esmerelda

pinklavenders · 09/05/2022 17:53

Esmeralda isn't any more 'frilly' than many other 4 syllable names like Seraphina, Adriana or Anastasia. I think it's beautiful.

CockleburIck · 09/05/2022 17:43

Ottie the hotty. No.

Esmeralda is beautiful, but a bit frilly for a British child (if that's who it's for).
