Alden (pronounced All-den). Do you think it could be pulled off by a British boy?

And does it sound too much like Aldi?

It sounds more Welsh than American. I don't mind it.

I think it's more likely to misheard as Aiden than Aldi. Honestly people call their kids and dogs Sky.

Alexaplaysomething · 07/05/2022 22:37

First thing I thought was that the l was an i and it was Aiden.

Like… all done?

I wouldn’t make the Aldi connection and don’t think that’s likely to be a big issue.

That said this is the first time I have seen the name, from reading it I wouldn’t pronounce it All-den with a long ‘a’ to rhyme with call/ ball etc if I read it, I would pronounce is Al-den with a short ‘a’ as in Albert or Alfie. So a potential issue could be mispronunciation if other people read it the same way as I do.

I'll be honest, the first thing that I thought when I saw "Alden" was "Aldi", even before I saw your sentence below asking if it sounded too much like Aldi.

Maybe these: Arlen, Adrian, Arden, Harlan ?

He may end up being teased with Aldi I think.
