Is this boys' name too American?

Alden (pronounced All-den). Do you think it could be pulled off by a British boy?

And does it sound too much like Aldi?

Like in the walking dead, I like the name think it's fine

I have a Cory though which everyone always says is very American

romdowa · 11/05/2022 05:44

It's the name from that movie with Russel brand , I think its get him to the Greek.

mathanxiety · 11/05/2022 05:23

Alden is a really old Anglo Saxon name.

SD1978 · 10/05/2022 12:27

All done springs to mind for me immediately, not Aldi.

user1492757084 · 10/05/2022 11:58

Alden not good. Why not try the name with a great meaning and a decisive sound - Allan?

Luredbyapomegranate · 09/05/2022 23:36

It’s a bit odd. Just sounds like a random surname.

Robinni · 08/05/2022 13:14

I thought it was Aiden at first.

May get this mistake through like.

Yes sounds American like Holden or Harper.

Also it makes me think of Elder…. Alden-Alder-Elder

KirstenBlest · 08/05/2022 12:52

It will be assumed to be Aiden/Aidan, or Olden
It certainly doesn't sound Welsh

i'd think Aldi too

ChristmasJumpers · 08/05/2022 12:07

I pronounce Aldi Al-Dee (Al as in Alan) rather than All-Dee so it wouldn't be a problem where I am (Lancashire)
My first thought on saying Alden out loud is Old-un so I'm not keen but it really only matters if you like it

pinklavenders · 08/05/2022 11:07

I like Alden.

I'd never think of Aldi, I don't even pronounce them A the same.

DisforDarkChocolate · 08/05/2022 08:05

I think a lot of people will default to Al-den, which has quite a different A sound. Aldi never occurred to me.

KylieCharlene · 08/05/2022 08:04

I thought you'd misspelled Aiden and was wondering why you thought Aiden was American🤔
Allden is just not a name imo.
I'm actually wondering if you meant Aldrin (Buzz). Although I wouldn't personally think of that as a name either.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/05/2022 08:03

DNeph (primary school age) is Alden. He has one US parent and one UK parent. Lives in the UK.

Metabigot · 08/05/2022 08:02

I know an Alden. Never thought of it as an American name, he's from an English background.

Don't particularly like the name but I wouldn't say it's American

DogsAndGin · 08/05/2022 08:01

I read it as Olden. It’s not a good name. It’s not even a name 🤷🏼‍♀️

Synchrony · 08/05/2022 07:59

I first thought you has written Aiden.
I don't think American or Aldi. I think Surname because I know someone with it as a surname.
I don't especially like it as a first name but I wouldn't think negatively or be surprised if I met a boy called that.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 07/05/2022 23:16

It's not a common American name.
If you want American try Allen. (Al rhymes with pal and len rhymes with den.)

Walkingalot · 07/05/2022 23:00

I really like it and wouldn't think of Aldi.

PassThePringles · 07/05/2022 22:55

I read it as Al-den. Not All-den. 'Aldi' didn't even occur to me. So having it mispronounced by some people could be annoying after a while.

DanceyBee · 07/05/2022 22:53

First thing I though was Alpen. Like the muesli.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 07/05/2022 22:52

Auden is nice

OneCup · 07/05/2022 22:51

I first thought you had written Aiden with the letter I as a capital letter.
Then I remembered you said American and that got me thinking of Holden in Catcher in the rye.
I guess I had never come across the name before.

Blone · 07/05/2022 22:47

Not this again. It was terrible the first time round.

PeekAtYou · 07/05/2022 22:40

Aldi wouldn't bother me. I think he'll be called Aiden or Olden
