Walter?

RainCheckMate · 05/05/2022 10:23

Yes or no?

It's been on the rise since the 90s and even though that rise is slowing it wouldn't be a surprise if it was in the top 200 or 150 in a few years. It's currently around 290th so not popular but by no means unheard of.

Would it be possible to avoid Wally in the same way that Williams avoid Willy?

Maybe the nickname Wattie is an option

That's worse than Wally. And rhymes with Twatty.

DorritLittle · 07/05/2022 09:33

For the sake of your baby, please don't OP. It may be on the ride in niche trendy London circles but the rest of us can't pull it off yet.

ButterRose · 07/05/2022 09:28

I want to like it but it's just a no from me definite no for Walter if it was just Walt I still don't love it but I don't hate it either

Starbeach · 07/05/2022 09:17

I love Walter but I don't think it's back enough of me yet

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/05/2022 23:56

It’s alright. I know 2 - one Walter the other Walt

I don’t think you’d get landed with Wally

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/05/2022 17:35

I want to like it. I love Walt but find Walter very wet

Irishfarmer · 05/05/2022 15:47

I don't like it. Nothing wrong with it through if you do go with it.

Chocolateswissroll · 05/05/2022 15:36

It was my grandads name. He was known as Wal. I wouldn't use it as a first name.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 05/05/2022 13:42

'bit of a peasant'

Grin

If only British people had more respect for those bit of a peasants than the many useless royals they've revered!

Mumofgirls2017 · 05/05/2022 13:14

I really like it, with nn Walt

DrDetriment · 05/05/2022 13:13

Walter is an awful name. Wat or Watt (pronounced what) is ok as at least you have the historical rebel Wat Tyler as your inspiration, even if he was a bit of a peasant.

MeridasMum · 05/05/2022 13:11

I'm another no OP.

I wonder if you're in Scotland with your suggestions of Wattie (either pronounciation). Just think of the glottal stop!!!

DishyFishy · 05/05/2022 13:08

Walter presents on c4

FrecklesMalone · 05/05/2022 12:49

Isn't Walter the dweeb in the Beano?

Yes, he gets called Walter the Softy, or Softy Walter.

TeenPlusCat · 05/05/2022 12:51

Can't we do secret emojis any more? Sad

TeenPlusCat · 05/05/2022 12:50

Walter isn't 60+. It is 90+ in my view.
Both my DF and DGF had it as a middle name.
Fits in well with other 'old persons' names such as Ivy.

Walt Disney would be my most immediate reference.
Followed by Walter Gabriel from The Archers Archers

FrecklesMalone · 05/05/2022 12:49

Isn't Walter the dweeb in the Beano?

Tangerinedreamx · 05/05/2022 12:46

For me it would be a no. It seems a really popular dogs name at the moment, at least where I live. I know 3 people that have dogs named Walter, 2 of those people had their dogs within the last 6 months. But maybe that's why I'd give it a no?

womaniswomaniswoman · 05/05/2022 12:40

Watt is pronounced like 'what'. Are you honestly considering calling your son 'Wattie'?

In Scotland it would be pronounced 'Wattey' (to rhyme with catty, although it's probably closer to Wa'ey with a dropped T) and it would be what men named Walter age 80+ get called.

Honestly, awful.

queenofmay · 05/05/2022 12:24

To be honest, I find it dated and not very appealing. It brings to mind somebody who's aged 60+. I think it's alright though. The nickname Walt is preferable to Wally.

DogsAndGin · 05/05/2022 12:18

Don’t like it at all

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 05/05/2022 12:16

Yep, the softy, sorry OP.

RuthW · 05/05/2022 12:12

I like it. I know a couple of baby Walters.

KirstenBlest · 05/05/2022 12:11

I neither like nor dislike it. Obvious nn is Walt

beetree1 · 05/05/2022 11:59

I quite like the name Walter I think its cute. Not sure on Wattie for a nn and I didn't think of wally I instantly just thought of Walt
