Thoughts on Delphine please? Do you know any?

I teach a 5/6 year old girl called Delphine.
Had no idea there was a child's cartoon character with the name - it's certainly never mentioned in class or by the other children. Definitely not a reason to not use it.

It’s lovely if you have a connection to France

makes me think of dolphins!

FayCarew · 02/05/2022 18:43

Dolphin

Luluuuuuuuuuu85 · 02/05/2022 18:33

It sounds very french to me, I would be surprised to meet one who didn't have a link to France! It's nice though, Delphi or Elphie are cute

plinkyy · 02/05/2022 18:16

Love it, classic French name.

pineapplications · 02/05/2022 18:13

It makes me think of the Delphi murders.

I can imagine a provincial boutique in 1986 that wanted to appear upmarket calling itself Delphine's.

Maybe it's because I've never met a person with the name. I much prefer Celine. Or Celeste.

Ha! I quite like Celeste, although it reminds me of Daphne and Celeste. Celine just makes me think of Celine Dion...

Delphine is such a lovely name. I also love French names!!

blameitonthecaffeine · 02/05/2022 15:36

I've never met one. Not overly keen on the een sound.

I know a little girl called Delphi though, which I think is really pretty (although perhaps too much associated with the Cursed Child now).

Yes, I thought about the donkey... but there's also Suzy Sheep, Zoe Zebra etc. Would it put you off? Do you actually like the name?

SpringLobelia · 02/05/2022 15:01

Despite not speaking French I have a serious weakness for French names. So Delphine is a yes for me. Ditto Sandrine, Mathilde, etc.

SpaghettiSquash · 02/05/2022 15:01

It's pretty. I like it.

mum2jakie · 02/05/2022 15:01

The only Delphine I have heard of is the donkey in Peppa Pig as above!

SunshineAndFizz · 02/05/2022 14:59

Delphine Donkey (Peppa Pig) is the only thing that comes to mind. This says more about me.
