Is Ernie acceptable in 2022?

Will Ernie lead to teasing or is it no different to other nickname names like Archie and Alfie?

Are there any names other than Ernest where Ernie could be the NN?

Noted this is a 2022 thread, but didn't Princess Eugenie name her little one Ernest in 2023? It may well become more popular.

apronbellybarbie · 04/01/2024 13:53

I think it's lovely

sunflowerpinks · 30/12/2023 22:18

Ernie & Bert Grin

DeeCeeCherry · 30/12/2023 19:37

I immediately thought of Ernie, the fastest milkman in the West. Then again, I am 60. I know 2 men named Ernest which I think is a nice name. They dont shorten their names.

LeighBee23 · 30/12/2023 19:36

I’ve named my son Ernest (2023) other than the fastest milk cart in the west everyone loves it… he would only be bullied for his name if he lets it happen and with all the made up names out there I’m sure he will laugh it off

sunflowerdaisyrose · 07/05/2022 15:52

Not my taste as all but don't think he'd be teased - it fits in at the moment

Birdie746 · 07/05/2022 05:34

Lol Ernie 😆

TheLadyDIdGood · 07/05/2022 03:53

I know a baby Erroll.

Galwayg · 07/05/2022 00:24

Ernie is cute! I run a business where I personalise children’s clothing and I’ve done 4 Ernies in the last 6 months. Very unusual though and I love it!

Penguinsaregreat · 06/05/2022 23:34

Yep Fastest Milk Cart in the West for me too.
Great song.

Galvantula · 06/05/2022 23:30

Probably to younger folk but as a late 70s born bairn I've got the fastest milk cart in the West going through my head too 😬

I never even thought of Bert and Ernie.

GigantosaurusRex · 06/05/2022 23:10

It's cute but makes me think of Benny Hill. I know an Erti though and I like that.

catandcoffee · 06/05/2022 23:01

No it's an awful name for a child...

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 05/05/2022 14:03

Is Ernie acceptable in 2022?

Provided you are planning to add a 'Bert' at a later date, yes.

topshotta · 05/05/2022 13:59

No

Bagging · 04/05/2022 22:13

Think it's OK but don't know why you'd pick it out of all the names that exist.

SpaceJamtart · 02/05/2022 22:37

I think is fine as a name, just reminds me of Underground Ernie which was a train show on cbeebies in the mid 00s with a weirdly catchy theme tune

MolkosTeenageAngst · 02/05/2022 22:24

Not to my taste but I wouldn’t think anything of a baby called Ernie. Lots of ‘old man’ names are in at the moment. I know babies called Stanley, Percy, Albert, Frank etc and I think Ernie fits well with that trend.

FayCarew · 26/04/2022 20:54

Two Ton Ted from Teddington is better

You beat me to it Smile

GenerallyGreenerGrass · 02/05/2022 22:13

Horrible unattractive name.
Dont do it!

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 02/05/2022 22:09

I like it.

user1492757084 · 01/05/2022 01:45

My two Uncle Ernests were each called Ern.

oliviastwisted · 27/04/2022 15:11

Not for me very Ernie and Bert.

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/04/2022 14:47

Ernest seems to be v popular.

I would call him that rather than just Ernie.. it’s sweet, but it’s.. very sweet, a bit like Herbie or Artie, he might want something a bit more grown up.

pinklavenders · 27/04/2022 08:42

Ernie & Bert are too well known still imo

Also Ern sounds like Urn.
