Hugo or Felix? Or neither?!

Really struggling for a boys name - have two girls which I found easy (fairly classic names), but boys not so much!

Husband’s suggestions are
Hugo
Felix
Charles
Robin

I quite like Hugo and Felix (not bothered re cat reference - never heard it mentioned in real life). Hugo sounds a bit pompous perhaps.

I like Charles, but dislike Charlie which is probably inevitable. Robin is growing on me, but not the strongest sounding name to me.

Any other suggestions welcome!

Hugh - handsome and manly with a great meaning.
Charles - same - but I also love Charley.

Felix is not a fave for me.
Robin is lovely; I prefer it as a second name.

Geoffrey
Ian
Barry
David
Russell
Christopher Robin - so fine.

Nice names. I prefer Robert to Robin.

How about
Marcus
Piers
Victor
Adrian

pinklavenders · 27/04/2022 15:52

Robin is a great name.

Or how about Reuben, Quentin or Roman?

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/04/2022 15:05

I like Hugo, and getting popular
don’t like Felix
way too many Charlies

I do prefer Robin for a girl but if you made it Robert nn Robin, he’s got the option of Rob/bie

otherwise Patrick, Laurence, Jerome, Francis, Silas, Tobias, Barnabas, Cassian..

wingsofabird · 26/04/2022 22:19

Hugo not pompous these days at all

wingsofabird · 26/04/2022 22:19

Love Hugo and Felix and Toby
not keen on Robin

Clarabellawilliamson · 26/04/2022 22:09

I have a Felix so I am biased! When he was born we knew no one with the name around us, we have since moved to another part of the country and I hear it everywhere! Considering g where it is on the top 100 boys names list there seems to be a disproportionately high number near where we live now! It works well in an number of other languages

I also like Robin and nearly went with it for DD. I like Jasper and Eugene/ Gene too

mizzo · 26/04/2022 18:53

I like Hugo, the one I know uses Huggy as a nn which I love.
I also really like Robin.

Not keen on Felix or Charles.

WhoppingBigBackside · 26/04/2022 18:46

I don't think Hugo is pretentious. It's part of the Arlo, Milo, Jago trend. I much prefer Hugh

There was a Felix in my friendship growing up and it's a hard name to shorten, so that puts me off

Charles is classic and Chas and Charlie are both nice

Robin is ok but a bit too christmassy. I know several Robins

Celendine · 26/04/2022 18:28

Hugo is lovely.
Like the others except Felix which reminds me of a cat

pitterypattery00 · 26/04/2022 18:25

We had Robin on our shortlist. Others included:
Ronan
Matthew
Owen
Euan
Fraser
Rory
Reuben
Adam
Ruairidh

Grumpyrainbow · 26/04/2022 18:15

I really like Felix. Or how about Rowan?

SweetNcrunchy · 26/04/2022 18:08

Both Hugo and Felix are great names.

Some along the same lines are Rupert, Miles, Rex, Seth, Oscar, Giles, Julian and Jolyon.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 26/04/2022 18:05

I really Hugo and Felix, would have chosen Felix if my dd had been a girl.

Robin is great too, but it seems to be more used by girls these days, not that that’s a problem.

Firebird83 · 26/04/2022 17:39

Robin is my favourite. Great name.

muddyford · 26/04/2022 16:35

Robert is a stronger name than Robin. Hugo and Felix are all right but both a bit Sloane Ranger handbookish from the 1980s. If I was a boy I would like to be called Robert Andrew. Richard is lovely too. Hate Charlie!

pitterypattery00 · 26/04/2022 15:52

I like Robin - and Robbie/Rob nice nicknames.

Your other names are absolutely fine, just not my cup of tea. The cat reference is strong for me too but I don't think it will be for today's children.

timeisnotaline · 26/04/2022 15:21

I have a Felix (love it), and would have a Hugo if she had been a he. Considered Charles too! So,
gabriel
gideon
max / maxwell
harvey
martin
Jack
James

JemimaTiggywinkle · 26/04/2022 15:12

I love Felix.

What about Robert?

yourestandingonmyneck · 26/04/2022 15:11

I would say neither.

I know a Felix in his 70s and think it's a great name.

But I just don't think it works now; I've come across a few parents in parks etc shouting "Felix" and I think that these days the cat reference is just too strong (and I don't even have a cat / buy the brand).

If you say the cat association doesn't bother you then I guess you could go for Felix....but anybody I know always thinks of the cat food brand first.

Agree Hugo is a bit pretentious.

Quite liked op's suggestion of Toby. Edward / Teddie is also good.

Chaoslatte · 26/04/2022 15:09

I love Felix, hate Hugo.
Nicholas
Rupert
Leo
George

Herewegoagain84 · 26/04/2022 14:59

Liking some of these suggestions!

Some I can’t use - sadly not Edward (nephew) and Alexander (daughter is the female version). Christopher would also be on my list, but it’s my dad’s name and although I love him dearly I’m not sure about naming directly after him!

I like Felix. Ancient name with a beautiful meaning and not so common.
Other names...

Sebastian
Asher
Mathias
Lukas
Magnus

Confuddledandmuddled · 26/04/2022 14:42

I liked Hugo and Felix as well… but settled on Toby. Also like Jasper but understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea!
