I seem to be stuck on the name Ruth. I think it’s due a comeback and love the nickname Ru. Baby girl due soon!
What are peoples thoughts?

I'm a Ruth. It's grown on me a lot as I've got older and actually I quite like the solid and slightly austere feel it has to it. Lots of people have told me they really like it although I suppose the people who don't would be too polite to tell me!

Wammawink · 29/04/2022 22:23

I love the name Ruth. I know a toddler Ruth who gets called Ruthie Ru

Lylakate · 29/04/2022 22:14

I like it, even though it reminds me of a roof. I know 2 Ruths, one is Ruthanne and one is just Ruth.

intwrferingma · 29/04/2022 06:26

It's quite an austere name. Biblical too. But the one Ruth I know, who is 55, is the loveliest woman, with the loveliest smile. So on that tenuous basis it's a thumbs up from me!

HairyBum · 29/04/2022 06:24

Tess is a nice alternative

HairyBum · 29/04/2022 06:20

I like Ruth. Beth is also nice.

Time2ChangeName · 29/04/2022 06:14

One of my dearest friends is called Ruth so all of my thoughts are positive. She’s a beautiful person, kind, thoughtful, successful and caring. I love the name.

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 29/04/2022 05:56

No. Sorry but it's awful.

Pollywoddles · 29/04/2022 04:45

Out of the three Ruth’s I know, two are complete wagons so it’s a no from me!

mathanxiety · 29/04/2022 04:41

Gorgeous name. Ru is lovely as an abbreviation, and Ruthie is sweet.

MalagaNights · 28/04/2022 21:18

It's lovely.

Simple elegant and strong.

Roo is also such a lovely pet name to play with when she's small and cute: RooRoo, RooWoo, Roosiewoo, RooBear, RooMoo, RooSchmoo 😁 you get the idea.

pinklavenders · 28/04/2022 20:34

Ruth isn't too bad.

But Ru?!

RuthW · 28/04/2022 20:28

Please don't- awful name. I've never ever been called Ru.

Arthursmom · 28/04/2022 14:28

I love the name Ruth. Unfortunately I have a horrible aunt names Ruth or I'd have used it. Go for it.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 28/04/2022 14:25

I've never really liked it but there's nothing wrong with it. I know a lovely adult Ruth who is American. I love biblical names in general, such as Tamar, Delilah or Rebekah. Ruth means red in Cornish, so Redruth is Redred!

DemBonesDemBones · 28/04/2022 14:22

I don't like it. I like the meaning, I like it written down but to me it just sounds ugly out loud.

LouisRenault · 28/04/2022 14:17

I like it. Simple and dignified.

Makes me think of someone very dull, downtrodden and wearing brown, washed out corduroy.

Makes me think of Amazon pirates!

MinoucheSapphic · 28/04/2022 14:07

I don't mind Ruth. The sound doesn't appeal to me personally, but it has a nice meaning behind it and the nickname Ruthie is rather sweet.
The "th" sound can be challenging for some to pronounce though.

I really dislike it. Makes me think of someone very dull, downtrodden and wearing brown, washed out corduroy.

My sister might change your mind GrinGrin

Toddlerteaplease · 28/04/2022 11:59

My sisters name. I love it. Though I always call her Roof.

Hortensiateapot · 28/04/2022 11:57

lovely name

ALittleBitofVitriol · 28/04/2022 11:56

Love it.

Mine is almost 17 and she's certainly far from dull or downtrodden 😄😄

Enko · 28/04/2022 11:52

BabyRuth is all I can see when I see this name..

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/04/2022 22:50

It’s the girl’s name I hate the most. Like a dog barking. It is SO ugly. You did ask…

Dazedandc0nfused · 23/04/2022 22:23

I think it's a lovely name.
