Elle vs Belle

Elle vs Belle?

That’s it really. Elle would be short for Eloise and Belle would be short for Isabel.

I’m mostly just interested in which of the nicknames you prefer!

I like Eloise more than Isabel.

However both Elle and Belle are the most bland, nothing sort of names. I particularly dislike Elle.

@HorribleHerstory

Belle Enderby Belle N Dawson Belle Church Belle Ring Belle Pepper Belle Bottoms Dumb Bell Hell’s Bells Bell’s Whisky Ding ding Bell, pussy’s in the well Saved by the Bell

I’d steer clear of Belle/Bell is a very old noun with so many associated words and idioms

I did the same 🥴
Snowiscold · 19/04/2022 20:40

Elle is much better than Belle.
But I prefer Isabel/Isobel to Eloise.
As long as it’s not Isabelle.

KylieCharlene · 19/04/2022 20:23

Much prefer Belle.
I'd personally put Isabelle on the Birth Certificate. Very pretty and suits all ages.

Eloise sounds OK but I just think of Louise- which I hate. Plus I find it a bit clunky to say. I also don't like the look of it written down somehow.
Elle is just a bit nothing too and will blend with all the Ellie/Eva/Evie names which are very common.

Secrettoday · 19/04/2022 20:12

I have an Isabelle who prefers to be called Belle. I love it 😍 out of 800 kids at school there are only 4 Isabelles, Elle/Ellie much more popular.

frenchie4002 · 19/04/2022 20:07

Elle is a beautiful name

shreddednips · 18/04/2022 23:41

I'm not a fan of Isabel or Belle, Eloise is lovely. Although I do slightly prefer Elise and it's less of a mouthful.

WaitinginVain · 18/04/2022 23:27

Belle but from Isabelle, not Isabel.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/04/2022 23:18

@PotteryWoman

Isobel. Why call her Isobel or Eloise if you intend to call her something else? Why not just write Elle on the BC?
Because the OP knows her daughter might want the option of a more classic name than the French word for she or beautiful. It’s alright for Elle McPhearson (who I think is Eleanor), but the chances of baby OP becoming a super model are slim.
antibacterial · 18/04/2022 10:00

Elle is lovely
Both are nice but I prefer Elle

spearmynt · 18/04/2022 07:36

If it were out of Elle and Belle, I'd pick Elle. I do like Belle too though.

If it were out of Eloise and Isabel, I'd definitely pick Isabel.

Caramelcap · 18/04/2022 05:15

Not a fan of Isobel at all. Love Elle and Eloise

MissDollyMix · 18/04/2022 05:08

Elle. My own DD has a name which can be abbreviated to Belle but I’m the only one who does that. I don’t actually like it that much so I don’t know how that’s happened! When I was pregnant I really wanted to call her Elle but DH didn’t like it.

cassrose · 18/04/2022 04:55

Eloise nn Elle (or Ellie) 100%. Belle annoys me for some reason. Maybe cause I knew a girl called Belle and she was annoyingly shy and whingey.

WhyTheWhales · 17/04/2022 19:10

I prefer Elle. Never liked Belle or Bella for some reason

comealongponds · 17/04/2022 18:33

Elle feels like a nothing name/nickname to me, Eloise is nice though

I love Isobel but would use Izzy rather than Belle

But Belle is nicer than Elle

PotteryWoman · 17/04/2022 15:48

My associations:

Elle - she/her, ELLE magazine, Elle Woods.
Belle - beautiful, a bell, bell end, Beauty and the Beeeast.

I like both Elle and Belle.

PotteryWoman · 17/04/2022 15:46

Isobel. Why call her Isobel or Eloise if you intend to call her something else? Why not just write Elle on the BC?

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/04/2022 12:22

Elle.

Belle means beautiful and people know that, so it would be an awful burden to carry.

dmb91 · 17/04/2022 10:42

Elle

KirstenBlest · 17/04/2022 10:35

Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella are overused

Eloise looks nice but is a bit of a mouthful, Ellie type names are overused

Of the two Bel but I'm not keen on either

felulageller · 17/04/2022 09:58

You do t get to choose their nick name. They might go by Ellie

FredinBread · 17/04/2022 07:44

Love both- Eloise nickname is a main character in Bridgerton who will feature more heavily in future seasons if that bothers you (she's an amazing character so association wouldn't be negative)

starynight21 · 17/04/2022 07:32

I think these are both very popular names in itself.

I love them both but Elle is less Disney but could actually be short for Cinderella or is Ella?

I also don’t really like the full length first names for these. I would just use Elle or Ellie as the first name.

HorribleHerstory · 17/04/2022 00:02

Belle Enderby
Belle N Dawson
Belle Church
Belle Ring
Belle Pepper
Belle Bottoms
Dumb Bell
Hell’s Bells
Bell’s Whisky
Ding ding Bell, pussy’s in the well
Saved by the Bell

I’d steer clear of Belle/Bell is a very old noun with so many associated words and idioms
